Congrats! Those are nice hassle-free, low maintenance cruisers. :D My wife had the V Star 650 custom before moving over to a sport bike. Great ride!

    I bleed blue BTW.... ;)

I had a 650 Silverado as well. Man do I miss that bike. I wish all the time that I had it back. Never had a bit of trouble with it, and it was great for commuting. A bit viby for highway speeds, but weekend strolling was great.

My star, almost done. Was a crash bike. Its a fun ride, but compared to the bikes I usually ride, it's like wrestling a rhino to ride around. Going to have to replace foot pegs pretty soon with all the scraping they get.

yea, its a 2001 650. Idea was to do it without spending much if any money.
Success. Spray paint can look pretty good if you wet sand it. Paint will stick to chrome with the proper preparation. Turns out that rust-oleum bed liner stuff looks a lot like powder coated cast aluminum.

Everyone and their brother does OD green and flat black. Wife wanted brown, her car is brown. Retro is still in, and its easier than flashy. Definitely cheaper. Gets a lot cheaper if you can do your own body work (tank was all kinds of dented up) and your own welding. They want like 200 bucks for a licence plate bracket with a light on it. I'm i it for free on the bracket and 20 bucks for the tail light. Similar on the fender. Had the body filler and 2k primer. thats like 10 feet of welding wire and 6 cans of various spray paint a few sheets of sand paper and raiding the scrap metal pile.

this might be a stupid question, but do cruisers fit in short beds? or do you guys trailer them? im looking at a ninja 250 and a v star 250...i know the ninja will fit but the vstar?

No not at all in a toyota short bed, nor in a toyota long bed which is really a short bed when talking about real trucks. Vstar has something like a 5 foot+ wheel base. then another half a tire on each end of that.

You might get lucky with a certain cruiser and fit it diagonally in a 75 inch bed, but not likely. That 650 in the picture BARELY fit in a full size dodge ram with the front wheel in the front corner and rear opposite. Managed to get the tailgate on and closed though. Would not fit IN my 75 inch short bed. Would never fit in those baby beds on the package double cabs. It weighs enough where I wouldn't be too comfortable rolling it up onto one of our utility wagon tailgates. Probably would be ok, but failure is catastrophic and quite probably life or limb and bike threatening. I was pretty worried about my ramps that claim 750 lb working strength, they were straining at the hinges. Not to mention it was all we could do to get it pushed up in there. Granted, guy is a cripple, but still a pretty strong guy.
