I was driving down the road minding my own business when someone pulled off of a side road across my lane and sideswiped the car coming my direction. I saw all of it happening and tried to slow down accordingly but before I knew it the car that got hit was coming at me. I tried then to swerve and speed up to avoid collision. She hit the rear bottom of my cab just below the rear driver door and pushed my pass. side into the curb knocking the tire off the bead and ruining the wheel on that side. I think after she hit me I may have drove up the front of her car hitch my rear wheel because I was riding on the two passenger side wheels for about 15 yards or so thinking I was about to roll. Luckily I was able to steer into it and get all four back on the ground. I had my two boys with me and they weren't too shaken by it all. Main thing is nobody was hurt in any of the vehicles.
    Car that started it all.

Great that no one was hurt.

I will say your truck looks amazingly healthy considering what happened.

I'd sure have the right rear wheel/axel well checked.

Glad you're ok as well as the other drivers. I second making sure the rear axle didn't get moved. Obvious signs would be fresh/clean looking metal now exposed where the axle used to sit. Body looks pretty good considering what happened.

Hang in there and just stay very involved in the repair estimate so they don't miss anything and your truck will be good as new.

Yea definitely going to have it checked out. I drove it home since it didn't happen far from home it was pulling pretty hard right, probably partially because of the flat tire.

Ouch, I agree with TexS4: MAKE SURE they do a proper checkout on the rear axle, wheel bearing, etc.

I have lots of friends that work in high-end repair shops and it's enlightened me on how little they actually dig into ensuring mechanical issues are solid. It's a hard thing to prove sometimes (in the case of wheel bearings and the like) so I get why, but express those concerns to the shop, stay on them about it, ask specific questions and do a thorough test drive before signing off on anything that will essentially be you agreeing all work was done correctly.

I was able to get the passenger rear tire to hold air and took it down the block to see how it drove. The "skid" or whatever it's called light on the instrument panel is on and the steering wheel is cocked pretty good, it also looks like the driver side rear wheel is sitting further back in the wheel well than the passenger side. Ive tried to move forward with an insurance claim but am unable to obtain a case number or any of the at faults info. So aside from filing a claim on my insurance I'm out of options other than playing a waiting game that the txdot web sight says could take up to two weeks.

The police officer got it and said it was in the report and made it sound like it was going to really easy to access. To be honest I was a little shaken and had to be at work like 30 minutes later.

File a claim with your insurance company and record the police report number. They will be able to access the other driver's insurance information and will pursue the claim against them.

Don't bother attempting to go after the other driver's insurance company on your own. You have much less bargaining power than your insurance company does. Not to mention that is what you pay them for in the first place. Take advantage of their services.

Gotcha, I had a situation like that myself. I never trust police to do the "correct" thing and if (when) I'm in another accident I'll always make sure I get all the info I need. I was sideswiped and after exchanging phone numbers immediately I got in the truck to move it out of the intersection we were both blocking. I assumed the woman who hit me would follow me to the parking lot but she just drove away. When the cop showed up he told me since we had exchanged numbers he couldn't cite her for leaving the accident but he assured me he would put it in the accident report and I'd have the rest of her info.

A few days later I go to the station to get a copy of the report and find out he never filed anything!

That was what I thought but when I called they started talking about a $500 deductible as if I was filing on myself. I'm going to give them a call back and try to get things going, the only thing is I couldn't get a police report number only a call number when I called the PD earlier today.

The $500 deductible will be waived if you are determined not to be the at-fault party in the accident. Even if you were, the damage to your vehicle exceeds $500 making it a moot point.

Give them any and all information you can about the other drivers, a police report number, information of the officer who reported to the scene. They will do the legwork of ordering the police report but you need to get them started on the right track.

Yea I just got off the phone with them, the person I talked to this time was much more helpful than the one I spoke with this morning. Maybe it was just my emotions and the unknown that was getting the best of me. There's a flatbed on its way to my house and I'm going to pick up my rental.
