Although our truck made be made in America, it is still a Japanese company that gets most of the profit. Making the cars here allows them to avoid being slapped with import tariffs and taxes. It does help provide for US employment but the bottom line is the profits go to Toyota.

True, but Toyota pays Texans to build these trucks. They pay taxes and buy things too. That is a lot of money staying here in Texas and ultimately America.

What makes LOL at the people who hate on Toyota is the fact that a majority of their belongings come from China.

The entire notion that buying a truck from the "big 3" makes you more of an "American" is absurd and is only held by the uneducated and the just plain stupid.

Don't forget the dealerships, the maintenance guys, the guys who operate the trucks to transport the new vehicles, those who build the parts that go into said vehicles, our venders on TW, and so on and so forth.

One of my friends gives me hell about my "overpriced underpowered" tacoma and says its a camry with a truck bed. but he also bought a ford sport trac (the only guy I've ever seen driving one by the way) so he could haul around his four wheeler in the little bed. I started giving him shit about that bed and how he should have kept his focus and got a trailer hitch for it because his atv will never fit. He ended up having to make a deck with some ramps to get his four wheeler to go up over the fender wells in the bed beacuse it was to narrow.:D

...and you wouldnt beleive how many people..( on this site) at one time or another were probably the same way...

I was too...When I was younger I was a DIE HARD Ford! Didnt want to have anything to do with a "Foreign" vehicle..

but, once you find out all the facts, you realize how good toyota is and where they are actually made!

Best thing to do with that guy is just smile and move on...You know what you have! And you will be the one riding, when they be WALKING!

    LOL

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
I agree, I used to be that way until I actually did my research and drove one. Plus I love the fact that my Toyota will still be running when most domestic trucks of the same year have long since been sent to a scrap yard!

I've never really been like that. All manufacturers have their good and bad for the most part. I like Ford trucks (full size) but don't care much for their cars. I've never been much of a Chevy fan but that doesn't mean I wont ever own one. And a big example is the fact that I always thought Hyundai and Kia's were sh*t. But they've come a long way and we almost bought a 2011 Sonata. I've heard they are very reliable now. :notsure: I'm pretty open minded but I've wanted a Taco for a long time, since before they were known as Taco's. :D

Yeah I used to be like that with chevy's. I never wanted a tacoma because my dad has a 98 5 lugger base model with some factory ugly hubcaps. I always thought of that when he told me to get a toyota. But after get 10 mpg's and working on it once a month I finally traded that POS in and I'm pretty happy now.

I didnt read this whole thread but I have to say to the OP-

ask them this - if they're trying to help our economy by buying US then telll them WalMart is off limits.
80% of the shit in that store is made in China.
Try to explain this to most "red blooded americans" and they'll look at you like your trying to explain the theory of relativity or something.
dont mess with an Americans Wally World right?

& my 2012 was mfg. in Texas or atleast assembled in Texas:rolleyes:

How much difference in mpg's do you get? All though it's doesn't sound like much, I've been getting about 5 more mpg's which does average out to a fair amount of savings per fill up. With gas prices in the $3.50-4.00 range I've been spending roughly $55-65 per fill up (getting about the same mileage per tank) as compared to $85-100. I don't drive a lot of miles but still winds up roughly $100 a month in savings. Then my insurance was even a few dollars cheaper to boot (about $20 a month) which surprised me going from an 05 2wd to a 2011 4x4.

Could be break in, I bought mine in Feb. so that was winter gas and it was discouraging at first. Then Idk if it was the summer gas, break in, or a combination of both but it seemed to suddenly get better. But my Ram was before the MDS was out and only averaged 14.5-15 mpg. Maybe yours did better? Mine did do a little better when I drove more hwy miles but since I moved closer to work it dropped a bit due to more city driving which kept me closer to 14 mpg.

I didn't read the whole thread, but so far no one has givin me anu shit about my truck. The other day I was cleaning my wifes Chevy Equinox out. I never went into the glove box before, but decided I would clean that out. So she still had her window sticker (since 2005) and some other paper saying the origin of things. I had to laugh, origin of the engine, China, origin of the trans, Japan. I told she drove a fake American car. So don't let anyone talk shit. Truth is, there is no American cars anymore, more like "where can I get the parts and cheapest labor cars", but that's too long of a name to fit on a trunk of a car. :D

I hate when people give me lip about my "Japanese rust bucket". It's ironic, given that I've run their VIN #'s and they are driving Mexican trucks and ragging on a vehicle that comes from a Japanese company manufacturing in America, which I think is kinda more embarrassing...I kid, I kid. but really, why does it matter? I own an American-made F150 for a plow truck, and I love that truck. Hell, I buy/own more local/American-made stuff than most folks. The guy ragging on your "Japanese" truck probably owns crappy Chi-com toys for his kids, crappy chi-com knives, computer components that are definitely made outside the US, and certainly eats plenty of food that isn't grown locally, or even in America. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but it is kinda hypocritical for him to pretend his "American" truck makes him better than you.
Let not your heart be troubled, though. They all learn their lessons someday, painful as it may be to watch.
