Well I decided to call the 800# and got a nice guy on the phone and he said there is a TSB covering this. He took all my info and documented the case and gave me a case #. He looked up the dealer down the road and gave me all the info including the customer relations managers contact info.

He said since its off waranty I need to contact them and take it in to have it looked out. He said they could see if my exteneded waranty would cover it and if not they look at out of waranty cases on a case by case basis.

So how did you guys out of waranty get this done? Any tips on how I should proced from here? My local dealer is open late tomorrow so I could stop in with the TSB and see what happens. They have always been really nice when I have gone in before, but I have never been looking for free work either.

    Thanks again everyone.

Well I decided to stop at the Toyota dealer down the road from my house (small town dealer) and the guy was very nice. Since my truck has 63,000 miles he said all he could do was schedule a diagnostic appointment and it would be $90 and then I could see if I can get Toyota to cover it or not. He said they might even reimburse the $90 diagnostic charge. He even agreed it was a catch-22. I did make an apointment and told him I might cancel it.

I think I am going to wait and see how it does this summer towing and stuff. I would rather throw $90 towards some new shocks rather than risk wasting it on nothing.

Or do you guys think I should try a larger dealer? One of the moms at my daughters daycare works for one of the larges dealers around, maybe she has some pull:D

i think it all depends on who you talk to. i called my dealer today to set up an appointment to get the tsb done, and it went very smoothly.

i said that i would like to set up a time to have a tsb performed on my Tacoma. the very nice woman then asked me the year of the truck, and which tsb i wanted. after she found the tsb on her computer she got all of my personal information and asked when i would like to take it in.

it's a big dealership, so she said that they stock all of the parts, and that they could do it as soon as i got the truck to them. I'm getting it on the 19th. can't wait.

but what i was saying earlier about it depends on who you talk to, I'm sure if a guy who is pissed off about the headache he has from the hangover that hasn't gone away had answered the phone, things wouldn't have gone so smoothly for me. moral of the story: keep calling, and eventually you'll get someone who can help:)

Well the guy was nice I have talked to him a few times before when I went to that dealer. I think my problem is its off waranty. When I first asked he was all set to make an appointment. When he found out it was off warranty thats when it got tricky. He also said no-way my Zurich extended warranty would cover it since its not failed parts.

I'm guessing your 07 is under warranty so they just setup a time...

yeah, only around 10,000 miles so far, i have a very short commute.

but hopefully things will work out, and that mom you know can help you out. the people you have tried it with already sound very nice, so maybe you can work out a good deal with them. either way, good luck and keep us posted.

I'm in. Just got the TSB and loving it! I can't actually put my dogs and camping gear in the back without it riding all funky. The difference between the 3 ad TSB leaf pack is night and day. I'd be more mad that they had those weak ass springs in there to begin with if it wasn't a warrenty covered TSB and the dealer was cool.

i had a skyjacker 3 inch lift with offroad struts and shocks applied with ad-a-leaf.Now i have 4 leafs. see my 05 taco is out of warranty with 66000 miles. and it has def made my ride a lil stiffer and more controlable. would i still need toyotas parts, coils or anything to fix this tsb?

No, it wouldn't qualify for it. Download the TSB PDF here if you want.

Well, my dealer thought they could to the rear leaf TSB yesterday, but a miscommunication had them doing two rear leaf TSBs with only ones set of replacement springs, so I have to take it back in two weeks.

They did the rear brake TSB, and it's nice to be able to back out of my parking spot at the house without the rear brakes squealling.

Everything was moving along nicely with my TSB until I got the work done yesterday and picked up my truck. I looked underneath the vehicle and saw 3 leaf springs. I went back in and talked with my service rep, who happens to be the assistant service manager, and he swore up and down that they were the right parts because he can only order what the computer tells him to order on a given TSB.

I looked at the part numbers on the new springs and clear as day they were the part numbers labeled "Previous Part Number" on the TSB. Not the "Current Part Number". They were new, but were the same exact part that was previously on there!! He then proceeded to give me some BS story about how parts can change but they keep the old part numbers. Yeah right. Despite me trying to show him the hard copy of the TSB he said he had to go by what's in the computer (which he wouldn't show me) and insisted that I must have an outdated version of the TSB. I was pissed but I went home. He said he'd research it today and get back to me.

I decided to do my own research. I called another dealership's parts department and they confirmed that there were two separate part numbers for each spring assembly. The replacement parts are a different part number than the previous parts. No surprise there.

To verify what the TSB calls for I gave another service department at another dealership a call this morning. A helpful rep looked up the TSB in the computer. Told me there was an updated TSB dated Aug. 28, 2007 (mine was July 20, 2007) but it did call for new part numbers for the springs. Again, no surprise.

So I'm really curious to see what this a-hole rep I'm working with comes back with today. He's so freakin argumentative and can't simply say I'll check the part numbers and get back to you. He insists on making me feel like I don't know what I'm talking about and that I've got unrealistic expectations about what they'll do on my truck. I'm worried he wouldn't even admit he was wrong if he does find that they ordered the wrong parts. Anyway, we'll see how this pans out....

You're out of warranty, and have an add a leaf. Toyota will not cover your truck under the TSB. You could likely pay for the TSB out of your pocket, but at the end of the day, having the TSB done would return your truck to stock ride height. Also a 4 leaf truck can not be lifted by way of an add-a-leaf, so if you wanted to lift it back up again you'd be reduced to blocks, and if you do any serious off-roading blocks are not what you want. Keep what you have. You add a leaf has already increased your payload capacity before bottoming out, so you've essentially already performed the work yourself anyway.

Wow dealer called me already and he said that "my truck has the new 4 back leaf springs and that a rep from Toyota wants to look at my truck" I explained to him that I had the old 3 pack leaf springs and he said that was impossible, so I see where this is going and its not going to be fun.

Stay on them, I got it done on my 08.

Loaded the Honda Foreman atv in the back last night and its fine, sits level the tailgate is solid too. Although if you hit some dips in the road and the springs touch the helper it gets a little harsh still, but not the sag I had before. Mine was a 02/08 build...still had the old springs. I mentioned it before even buying it, and ended up having to call the 800 line to expedite my request so I could rust proof it with the new springs on. Good luck!!
