After a couple of years cracking up about Chevy "Trail Boss," I start remembering all the questions about how to lift the Tacoma a couple inches or so and some off-road tires. Maybe a little more aggressive look. Seems like Chevy maybe listening to what people are looking for.

Chevy suffered for decades of tiny tires that would rub unless you did major modifications.

Toyota now has factory lifts for their trucks, and who knows what the 4th gen has to hold.

Tundras are fitting 37's no issues.

I work next to a UPS facility and 75% of the personal trucks in there are Trail Bosses. One with a Duramax would be a sweet ride.

Chevy/GMC consistently produce the biggest pieces of shit on the road, if you want to give them a hand try helping them make a more reliable product.

"...At the top of our least reliable list are the full-size GM twins, the Chevy Silverado and GMC Sierra. Consumer Reports gave them the lowest grade possible pointing out problems with the transmission, brakes and in-car electronics (infotainment system) among other items..."

Lol the big domestic trucks do look cool. But no. I know a lot of people who own them and it’s always something fairly major and stupid failing. When that’s not happening, parts of the interiors (that’s you, GM) start getting clapped out prematurely. The Tacoma isn’t perfect but it sure seems to keep its “newness” longer than the common big trucks.

After the GM ignition recall for that issue they “swept under the rug” I cannot trust their products. Their vehicles also just don’t age well.

and Ford does shit like needing to take apart the entire passenger side dash to change a cabin filter that plugs up monthly. Or no recalls for an automatic transmission that fails well under 70,000km fairly routinely. With a $5000+ repair bill (TBF, that’s their smaller cars)

    a million nopes.

I’ve never met a bunch of people who know more people with specific trucks and they all happen to be failing. Gigantic coincidence I imagine. Everyone I know with a GM or Ford has no issues. But I guess I’m the rare person out there

It's snazzy looking for sure. It also has a lot of high tech gear on it. One of the reasons I went Toyota Tacoma (SR5) is because it's a more of a low tech truck of proven design. Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if half the tech on today's Tacoma existed on the Toyota pickups of the 80s and 90s (pre-Tacoma days). Some it might even fit in those old trucks. lol

And as Scotty (star trek) would say, "The more they overtake the plumbing, the easier it is to stop up the drain." And that Trail Boss has some mighty overly complicated plumbing to be sure.

I am suggesting that Toyota may want to add a factory model with comparable components to the trail boss. I know we have the TRD Pro and I know the trail edition offer 1.1 inch front and .5 inch lift in the rear. I also know that Toyota offers the dealer installed lift. Just a wild as guess I would say that at least 1.1 out of every 10 post on the 3rd gen forum are asking or discussing 2-3 inch front end lifts. Seems like a factory lifted model comparable to the trails boss would be a big seller. Give the people what they are wanting kind of thing, I don't know. I would rather spend my money on the Off Road model, that's me. Don't be thinking I am saying "buy a Chevy" I wouldn't do that. I am just saying there is a market for a Tacoma with a factory 3" lift in my opinion.

I agree with op. Chevy is putting pressure on toyota whether you like chevys or not. The new zr2 is the beginning of what midsize trucks should have been for the past 5 years.

A friend of mine took his trail boss in for its first service interval. The dealership tech drained the oil and somehow forgot to refill it. A few miles down the road the engine seized up and was a total loss.

The dealership eventually took responsibility and Chevy put a new engine in it. That’s all I know about Chevy’s lol

Haha yeah. They don't get my hand. They look nice, probably are fun to drive but you don't see many 10-15 year old chevys filling up the roads like Toyotas.
