You’re forgetting all the pest control companies running around in Tacomas. That’s a “work truck” to me.

Even those around me are Ford and Chevy, maybe even a Frontier but rarely a Tacoma. I think the good ole boy system is much deeper with those dealerships here in Louisiana.

I worked for a Ford dealership and fleet pricing is insane for anyone that can get a FIN code.
I sold 12 F series trucks to a power plant and the average cost was about $34,000. Only 3 half tons, the rest were Super Duty 450/550. They even had old junk trades (95 F-150, 2000 F-350, etc) and ended up cutting a check for around $200,000 post trade. I imagine Toyota doesn’t really want to follow suit to chase sales.

No argument there. Mines getting transmission #4 and had the top end grenade. Over $30k in repairs, 2017 with 110k and no towing. Latest repair bill from October:

My prior work chevy also grenaded at 121k and 8 years. Would never own one personally. My employer loves em’ for some reason.

That’s all cars not trucks and for all trucks, GM wipes the floor with Toyota. However, as bad as GM kicks Toyota’s ass in overall truck sales, Toyota does the same to all contenders in the midsize class and has done so for as long as I can remember. The top 3 sellers in midsize class don’t even match Toyota Tacoma sales. That will probably change with the Maverick coming into the classification. The Maverick will outsell the class IF and a very big IF Ford doesn’t screw up the reliability AND can improve availability. However it’s Ford so unlikely.

When it comes to numbers nobody cares if it's cars, trucks, or dildos.

The company truck I have is a 2021, it seems like the low end as far as options go, no nav, cloth manual seats, no fog lights.
It has the 5.3 and it does get good mpg and has decent pickup but I’d never buy one. At 20k the engine seems noisy and although the transmission doesn’t hunt for gears it has some clunky shifts at times....dealer said the trans was slightly over full.

It’s at 43k now and as much as I like the way the Chevy looks I’m glad I didn’t buy one.

There is one thing that Chevy has that’s great, the 4-auto setting that acts more like AWD than 4hi.

Damn. I'm late to the party here. 81 C3500 DRW 454 4 speed. Have no idea what you all are talking about re: GM shit boxes. Seems to me you all are buying the wrong Chevy / GMCs. :benchpress:

Think the new family truckster are SUVs with a 3rd Row. Watched a video with Mike Swears talking about the new Sequoia, while minivans should be the perfect vehicle for those with spawn, they just aren’t deemed cool.

With the van life trend you think manufacturers would offer a midsize van with a stout 4WD system, but vans never seem to catch on here. I seriously looked at cargo Sprinters, Transits, but they would be kind of pain to daily, just a little too big. Really like the Mercedes Metris, however no AWD in the States. Would be perfect for me, can fit two dirt bikes it for weekend warrior shit, and a decent daily. Sales were so poor Mercedes is pulling it from the US market. So it is Tacoma and a moto trailer for me. Do like some of the bells and whistles, the SR trim interior is mostly plastic, with I like, however wish it had vinyl seats since I tend to drag a bunch of dirt into the cab.

I have to check out that Metris. That would be perfect for my triathlons I am thinking. I like the way it looks also.

Agree, most suv owners would be better served with a minivan, and most suv’s are pretty fugly and look like a bulbous minivan.

Even though I can’t stand vans I do agree on their practicality for bikes, but never as my only vehicle.
If you camper it out nice then the last thing you want is that gas smell so you’re back to a hitch hauler.....which is why I got the taco.

Here's what I have to say about Chevrolet.

Buy one brand new, when the motor blows up at 52K miles, spend $7K replacing everything, and while your at it, replace the axles with 1 tons, all new brakes, replace the transmission and transfercase out of a 1 ton truck and plan on the engine blowing up again.

I could buy 2 Tacomas for the amount I have spent on keeping this pile of shit running.

There are people here that claim that Toyota doesn’t give a f about the Tacoma

Toyota probably wouldn’t feel the loss of Tacoma sales to its bottom line. The amount of money spent engineering the Tacoma compared to the RAV4 (or Highlander) is probably like 10% of the engineering dollars spent on the Tacoma. The people that run company probably love Tacoma because the spend very little and get a nice return but if they were forced to spend RAV4 dollars to compete they would probably drop the model. It will be interesting to see the 4th Gen model. That will be a test of how much Toyota does care about the Tacoma.

The next generation of buyers have very different wants than I do from a vehicle. I am fairly certain all future vehicle will move further away from the things I like about vehicles. I actually enjoy driving and the experience of a vehicle. I like mechanical bits and the vibrations, sounds and smells of a engine. I don’t want the car to drive for me.

The next generation view a vehicle as an extension of their phone and really want nothing to do with actual driving. I fear the next Tacoma will just be a phone with wheels.

I also fear that I just spent 40k on a vehicle for the first time in my life with the expectation it would retain value better than any vehicle I ever owned too. I fear that won’t be the case. The world changes much faster and things get obsoleted and discarded way quicker than 10 years ago. I think I may have made a mistake spending so much on a vehicle that will be taboo in five years, poor gas mileage and dirty smelly engine. I hope I am wrong but having a bit of buyers remorse.

OK, never mind, watched a couple of reviews. I seen it and thought "mini sprinter, nope, that is not the van I am looking for.

Are you joking? The Tacoma is Toyota. Never buy a truck so you can resale the thing. Take it out in the mud, chop off the fenders, slide it sideways...go on have some fun.
