Greased my drive shaft...

    this totally sounds like a sexual innuendo, but...

    I greased all 6 zerks with red 'n' tacky no.2 really easy job...

    I was worried it was gonna be a pita, but its really not...

    just wanted to post this for anyone like me that was a 'lil hesitant to do it themselves...

    p.s. I'll be doing this with every (or every other) oil change now!

    The rearward zerk on the front driveshaft can be a PITA, but other than that it's cake. Some needle nose pliers can help you get to that one troublesome zerk.

    i run amsoil 0-30 all year....and change out the filter with a Mann ML-1003:cool:

    I grease the shafts on the tacoma every month. Now my personal shaft I try to grease that every night.:D LOL

    what about the #6 zerk? should I put 2-3 pumps of grease in their everytime too?

    also in the 4x4offroad writeup it suggests doing the ball joints, but I couldnt see them at full lock and I didnt wanna take the wheel off...is it a good idea to do these too?

    The one on the slip yoke? Yes.


    The stock upper and lower ball joints are sealed units. No zerks, no way to grease them.

    oh...maybe I was referring to the "steering stops"

    either way I still couldnt see them anywhere and didnt wanna take off the wheel...

    should I grease them too or not...

    glad to know, I really didnt wanna take those wheels off...I went from 4 lug nuts a wheel to 6 and I hate taking wheels off!

    well Im not positive but the red shock boot makes me think thats not a coilover, therefore it is torsion bar suspension.

    I'm all set up to do the greasing but haven't got around to doing it yet (dealership's been doing it.) Is it best to just pump a few times until you hear or see old grease coming out or is it be better to keep pumping until you see the new grease comeing out? I've heard too much could blow seals?

    Just pump until you just see some old stuff ooz out and stop. You will hear some popping too.
