 Howdy, Gringo here; long-time Toyota truck fan but noob on this forum. I've previously owned an '83 'Mojave' edition truck with the 22R motor, 5spd and long bed - put over 100,000 miles on that truck, then had an '85 basic for a few years which I sold in 1995 when I moved to S. America. More recently I was the happy owner of a 2000 Pre-runner, and except for that awful 60/40 bench seat (fixed by transplanting 'sport' seats from an old FourRunner) I really loved that thing. But sadly less than 3 weeks ago it was condemned under the Toyota rust recall, and last Wednesday I handed it over in exchange for a fat check, more than I paid for it in 2005:

Ya gotta love that kind of customer care, so on Friday I picked up my fourth Toyota truck, a 2010 'Taquito':

First new car ever. Thanks, Toyota, for the nice boo$t!

I liked the tall stance and good clearance of my old truck, but Prerunners are now unobtainium here in the northeast except by special order (4 month wait) and I doubted my frame would hold up that long. I grew up in NH and learned to drive in snow so I never felt I needed 4wd on my other trucks, but dealers looked at me like I was  as my desires didn't fit their inventories. I finally got lucky and found a very nice SR5 2wd Access Cab, 4cyl 5spd in the online inventory of a dealer more than 100 miles away, and put money down before it even arrived. When I finally saw it I didn't like the squat appearance, but in the first mile of my test drive I was flashing back to my comfy old Mojave and our many happy cross-country miles together. After ˜5 years bouncing around in the PreRunner I had forgotten how smooth, comfortable, and quick a stock, low truck can be, but after only 200 miles I'm in love. It's nimble and fun to drive, and hopefully will be almost as economical as my '83 was (32mpg on trips).

I've always done all the work on my trucks, so I looking forward to DIY tips, ideas for mods, and just hearing what others have to say about Taco ownership.

First major mod: wheels and tires... ;)

Welcome. My story isn't that far off from yours. My 97 was bought back and I got a new 08 for about half price. I'm originally from Swansea, Mass, not to far from the cape. Nice choice of color on the new ride. Congrats and good luck.
