If you can prove that it works, and make it plug and play, I would gladly pay $250 for it

Should be plug and play with just 12V power routed to it. That price should be in the ballpark since I’ll need a custom pcb made for an Mcu to generate the waveform for the diff coil.

Dam, I checked this out and it’s not gonna work. The hilux has a different harness for the diff.

I'm super wire savvy but generating a signal to correspond to the networking with variable resistances and what have you, is just over my head lol. Can't you just add a switch and power the locker and use diodes to prevent back flow into the factory wiring, and possibly figure out the resistances that the network is looking for from the modules? I think that would work, so long as you had an additional switch.

Well damn. Is it just the plug that is the issue, or are the Hilux circuits different?

Something very similar, it will have an extra switch that overrides the stock one.

Buried somewhere in this forum in a similar thread, I found a link lol

Just from the installation, the plugs were different. Havent looked at a hilux service manual, schematic and parts list though.

Can you just ground the switch in the overhead console to use the locker anytime?

    No.
There's 2 or 3 failsafes for locker in 2wd to overcome.

Damnit. Thanks for the response. I'll go put the console back in now.

Who's brave enough to try this? Sounds legit.

Here are the fail-safes that need to be overcome.
    There's a reason the Bud's Custom 2wd locker anytime kit has a CAN-bus unit.

The wheel sensor picks up a signal off of a toothed ring on the front wheel hub (inside). It must 'see' the teeth passing by at a rate that agrees with the road speed or it senses trouble, ie skidding, pending wheel lockup, etc.

I looked around on Google and am seeing the same thing. It just seems odd that Toyota locked this down so securely. The pre runners can use theirs in 2wd.

    Not exactly
The grey wire mod was anytime lock.
The 2lo mod (pnp or wire mod) does allow lock while the truck is in 2lo, but not really the same.

I worked hard on it here
    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/rear-diff-lock-anytime-mod-3rd-gen-development.537810/

Most effective solution is to take over lock control manually and not use the ECU for lock.

(Note, I do not recommend applying 12v to the lock coil)
