Haha, you did. From his post I just wanted to make sure he knew which cut end of the grey wire to use, grounding out the other piece by mistake will not work out very well. I'm curious why they didn't set these trucks up like this from the factory.

Hey I'm new with all the truck and off-roading stuff but eager to learn - under what conditions would it be favorable to have a rear diff locked without being in 4wd? Thanks for the clarification!

I wouldn't say it's ever more favorable, i mean the Diff Lock was designed to be a last resort after 4x4. It's like having a fat person behind you for the extra budge.
The main reason people/and myself do the grey wire mod is purely because it's a modification and an easy one. It's fun to take on a trail in 2wd having the diff locked just helps that much more.

If there's another reason besides just for the fun of it then im clueless ;)

I did the mod for cruising around the desert. Locking up the rear end ensures both tires keep spinning, giving you real 2wheel drive. Without the locker your truck puts power to the tire with less resistance (less traction). If you were out rock crawling you NEED to have lockers to ensure tires all turn the same amount. Whatever you do it is not recommended for street use and you can break parts that way.. sand is what you would want the locker for in 2wd. But, if you start to bury the truck you will bury pretty deep and make it harder to get out. It is nice when hauling ass in the dunes thoughh!
Tacoma122- I found a screw that was going into part of the body (metal), but that should be all you need.

What exactly does this mod do? I don't have 4wd, I was just wondering...

You don't need 4wd for this mod as it only affects your rear axle. THis mod allows you do use your locking differential in 2h, 4h, and 4low. This differential lock came with TRD options. All of this information can be found in the first page of this thread.:smack:

Just ripped apart my wiring under the dash to fix my signals that the dealership screwed. Figured while I'm cleaning up the wiring I might as well do this, took me a minute to cut, crimp and heat shrink together!

Then I discovered the signal fuse was blown... Checked it once before visually, thought it was good haha. Oh well at least all my wiring is nice and organized, cleaner than factory now!

I have a question related to this (sort of).. i found a decently priced e locker third member and i want to install it on my truck.. But i don't want to wire in an ecu and buy it and that stuff. Can the e locker be engaged with only a wire run to it for power, and be very careful with the switch in the cab so you don't ruin the rear end? Because that would be awesome

There is a way to retrofit the e locker and wire it, guys put them into older pickups all the time. Google it and check up on Yotatech too.

It blinks before it fully engages. It turns solid once it's fully activated.
