How strong is the Diff lock in 2hi if I do this mod ? could I spin/smoke the back tires on asphalt or is the gears in the diff lock when engaged to weak to smoke the tires from a stand still ?

Another thing I've done. :anonymous: Both will spin and it will be fun as hell.

I don't have ABS so I'm not 100% but, yes, it sounds like you have it right. The ABS would be pretty much useless when locked so I'm not surprised it would disable when the locker is engaged.

Thanks Walt . I have read that you should only use your locker in mud . Have you used your locker since you did the gray wire mod in 2wd on the dirt or snow or even on the pavement when its engaged ?

I have in snow, dirt, rocks. Works great. The only one i would use caution with is on ice. Having a locked rear will cause the rear to break traction easier on ice and fish tail. At least that's been my experience.

only thing i would do different is put a switch in between so that it would be selectable so that when you don't need the rear end locked up like when driving in town

That's an awesome idea! I have a question though. Is this mod for ALL 1st gen Tacos? Also, just to make sure that I am understanding what it does exactly, this just allows the rear differential to provide better traction in any scenario minus actually being in 4WD?

A switch on the gray wire would not add any functionality. You already have a switch on the dash that enables or disables the e-locker.

The only point of this mod is to allow the e-locker to be enabled in 2wd and 4Hi as well as the usual factory 4Lo.

Only if you have a locker. Also I don't get the switch suggestion? You already have a switch to turn your locker on and off. This mod doesn't negate that setup.

All this mod does is let you lock the rear diff without needing to be in 4wd high or low. You should still lock/unlock below 5 mph per the manual. BUT you can take a 2 high locked truck as fast as you want on pavement, shouldn't harm anything really.

The switch idea made sense to me as a good idea because I wasn't aware that this only worked if you already had the rear diff switch. I do not have said switch, so I am assuming I don't have the locker.

No if you don't have a switch in your cab then no locker for you unfortunately. Not an easy thing to acquire a factory locker setup either, need a new axle, actuator, and harness. Cheaper and easier to install an ARB in the rear if you don't have one from the factory.

I would like to know this as well. Is there also a way to lock only 3 wheels and not all 4? Will this mod work if driving upside down? Where can I purchase the key to unlock it, or is it a combination lock?

    Thanks
