I have put a K&N Air intake, 1500 series bilstein shocks set at 2.5, with a procomp add a leaf to the rear springs giving 1.5 inch lift to the rear. Kenwood Excelon Deck with USB Port 4.0 V Pre Outs! Infinty Ref 4 channel amp for mids and highs Infinity Kappa Perfect component 6.5 in the front and kicker 6.5 two way in the rear. Alpine mono amp for 2 kicker 10 inch competition Subs in a custom Tacoma box. Gold Plated battery Terminals. BFG All Terrain 31's.
What is the benefit of being able to use the locker in high gears? Is it necessary and for what applications? Mud, snow etc..?

why would you want/need to run it to a separate switch?? with the grey wire mod done the way you see it here......you can activate the locker in 2hi, 4 hi, or 4 lo.....anytime.

no...not at all. when you hit the locker switch,as normal, it will come on and go off with the diff lock switch.

I'll probably get flamed for saying this but here goes... I think hooking up a switch to the grey wire makes sense! You can flip the switch, ground out the grey wire then hit the locker switch to engage the locker in 2 or 4 high. When you're done flip the switch back and the grey wire is back to how it came from the factory. Seems like the safer way to go since nobody knows for sure if there's any ill affects to having the grey wire grounded all the time. I'm probably just being overcautious....

ive had mine done for some time with zero ill effects

ive never read anything negative about it when done properly

no sense in adding MORE wiring and switches when you dont have to...just makes it more complicated

ground the wire...use locker sparingly as needed...still engage at very slow speeds...learn how it acts before acting like a jackass...

and youre good to go

Please don't flame, but from my reading this is pretty much just a mod to do on 4x4s correct? Or is this for any PreRunner with the locker?

na man its just a waste. the mod was created from studying the wiring diags.. It wouldn't work if it had Ill effects.

just did this mod to my truck. works fine. my only concern is going around corners on dry pavement. obviously the outer tire will spin faster than the inner(depending if you turn left or right) so my tire is skipping/skidding on the ground when i turn corners. i wouldn't reccommend using this on the road in dry weather. not really needed and will just wear the diff down as it is not a limited slip dif. Probably why toyota only wanted people to use it in 4Lo

i used this out of another post with sub quotes. lol.
he might be talking about new tacomas but the same still applies to old ones

if you like a working rear dif for 4x4ing don't use this modification on the road for regular use. Its not limited slip and will wear on your tires and everything else connected to the diff when its locked. There are 2 kinds of locking rear difs you can have; A limited slip(for use on all surfaces) and just a straight locked diff(real bad on the road)

do you have a diff lock button on the left side of the dash? If not, than like me, you have a sr5 model and do not have a diff lock.
