I've seen at least 3 or 4 pictures of the same melted plastic in the same spot on the truck.....highly unlikely they were all reflected sunlight on the same spot.

looks like the pro grille is trapping heat. I have seen two instances on this forum, both with pro grilles and both were quicksand. Is there any documentation of other colors and non pro grilles?

I also find it difficult to believe it's reflected sunlight. For some reason I believe it has everything to do with cheap manufacture cost cutting materials used when producing the grill surround.

There is another member here having the same issue, but worse. He has the original "cheese grater" grill and has not upgraded to the TRD Pro grill.

LINK to another Tacoma's grill deformity WITHOUT the TRD Pro Grill.

I didn't know dealerships like that existed. Every single one I go to always wants to pass the buck and place blame on something/someone that doesnt require them to do anything free of cost to the customer. Could you tell me which one it was so I can start going to them?

Joe Myers Toyota. The people here go above and beyond regarding customer care and retention. I strongly believe it has much to do with the owner of the dealership being onsite and being active with his staff and customers. The owner has an open door policy in his personal office. The owner takes pride in how his customers are treated. Treating customers with excellent care leads to word of mouth referrals as well as strong customer retention leading customers to come back time and time again to purchase their vehicles. After dealing with this dealership, one does not care to visit other dealers and experience the typical car dealer antics. The owner knows that excellent customer care and service ultimately pays off and makes doing business the right way worth while.

    UPDATE:

The parts or shall I say the new grill surround arrived at the dealership on 10/05, only a few days after the dealership ordered the parts. Due to my busy work schedule I was not able to take my truck in for the repair until today. In addition my service adviser made sure that my preferred Toyota technician was scheduled to work in order to install the new grill surround. I dropped it off this morning, had the shuttle drop me off at my office as well as pick me up for my return trip to the dealership. Great dealership with a great staff providing excellent customer care and service.

The new grill surround was installed UNDER WARRANTY and looks as good as I was expecting, like new. I'm glad to have the grill surround replaced and very happy with the service I received and look forward to NEVER having to deal with this particular problem again. And no the dealership could not provide any reason for the deformity. Regardless I'm happy this is complete.

Everything is fine, no melting and no other issues to date. I'll surely update this thread/forum should any other incidents arise. Thanks for following up and your concern, I appreciate it.

Enjoy a good day and a great week. Live long and propser:thumbsup:

I’m running into this same currently. A few weeks ago a dent showed up in my bezel then another and now yesterday it’s literally like riveting and melting. I thought someone was doing this to me and even filed a police report. I knew it was happening at work though and we checked the cameras and NOTHING. I would drive to work with no new dents and leave with new ones. I did some googling and found this thread and some others.

The building I work in is 100% glass windows and I park directly in front of them. Could this really be melting the plastic?

I’m bringing my truck in on a Monday to Toyota but they just told me they’ve never heard of this even after seeing the pictures and they think someone is pouring some type of solvent on my truck causing this.

Sad but true, the sun is reflected off the windows and melting the shroud. Happened to several guys here.

I don't have any of the deformed problems BUT in that spot every time I park is a strong smell of oil/coolant/tranny oil coming from behind the grille and is HOT at the touch, much hotter than the rest of the truck front. It may be heat radiating from the tranny cooling radiator that is in front of the radiator and in the same spot but lower than the deformed bezel?
I park in shade at work and when I get home I put the leaf blower on it for about 2-3 min to cool it off.
Might be nothing or it may be the cause.

Sorry to see your experiencing the same issue. My dealer also had never heard of this issue yet they replaced the parts under factory warranty. Good luck with a speedy resolution. Keep us posted.

I've also experienced the strong smell of coolant emanating from the engine bay area, brought it up to my service adviser and was told that it is normal, hmm.

When I saw the photos I immediately thought of light reflecting off the glass basically causing a magnifying glass situation.

Thats exactly what it looks like.

I would not park infront of the windows anymore.
I bet the damage will stop.

Even the black plastic in the grille is melting.
