I have... I guess it's still not off the table. I was going to see if sanding will get me to where I want to be. If it doesn't work from there then I will either go that route or just get one from the BST thread.

Use the paint thinner first epically if the paint is still tacky

Just do it on a area you don't see first. Brake clean works really well to remove spray paint as well just make sure you clean the area really well before you re paint

It's dry/smooth to touch at the moment. Gonna go get what I need in the morning (it's 10PM here now) and attempt to start. If it's not enough time then I can wait a couple of days and give it another go.

Wet sand 400 grit to knock down. Then 600 wet again to smooth out.You can add primer or just go over it with paint.Sorry but this happens to us all .Sooner or later..

That wasn't the point, sure primered or not knacking something is going to screw the paint job either way. I'm just saying the chrome on the grille without the proper primer is going to get you in the long run, rock chips, etc.

I get it, either way we all know the name of the game here is just keeping what we have right now good until the next best thing comes along (on this site that could be tomorrow). Like I said before I've had success both ways and had this not happened wouldn't have thought twice about whether it was primered or not.

You can always shoot it with a wrinkle black paint... The textured finish should cover up the imperfections. I wrinkled blacked mine. And I drove my truck to LA and the finish of the paint held up really really well. No rock chips and the bugs wiped right off!

Get an assorted pack of automotive sand paper and start in the 300-400 range, working up to 1000 or so. Will take lots of time, but it beats buying a new one.

Thanks y'all. I ended up sanding for a couple of hours the other day and painting it up. Ended up with a blemish still but I can live with it.

I really didn't want to go with a plasti-dip or any other Bedliner/textured finish, been there a couple of times and just wanted something that looked a little bit more finished. If I had to do it again, I would still go the gloss route, just probably take my time at the start and not rush the finishing steps. Either way I'm still happy about getting rid of the chrome!

What about trying a paint stripper and starting over?

I tried painting my center console where the shifter is black, and it turned out GREAT, until the last coat of clearcoat when I got cocky and sprayed too much. Sanding just gums up the paper and makes it worse. I'm thinking of putting a stripper on it and seeing if it can get all the paint off and I'll just start again. I will already be ordering a new plastic piece for it in the future to replace it, so I really can't make it worse. Wonder if the same could be done for you since it was chrome originally.
