I only cook breads by timer anymore. Meats get the thermometer method.

Unless it's burgers. Those are five minutes, flip, two minutes, rest.

All the time! But there is a lot to be gained by looking and tapping on steaks. Of course taking into consideration all of the variables, such as type of cut, thickness, grill temp, etc. By no means is it a consistent product when compared to cooking to temp, but it does allow one to migrate from the timer. Any more the “timer” (watching the clock for me) is just for situational awareness.

Or one could argue that I’ve been so bad at setting the timer I have had to hone other skills to compensate for my absent mindedness. Lol, take your pick!

usually my dogs fault, damn aussie's get bored easily and hes usually dropping a ball at my feet while i grill. Less of an issue lately, smartwatch is very easy to set a timer quick

And im glad to see people other than me use a thermometer. I mean im perfectly capable of cooking without one, but getting it perfect really makes a difference, especially chicken breasts which can dry out easily. After years of discussing i finally got a coworker to invest in one. FWIW, i love the thermopop

Cooking without a thermometer is like working on your truck without a torque wrench. Sure you can do it but why not hit the easy button and just get it right every time.

1st attempt at pizza on the grill, saw one of you do one in here, so I got a cast iron pan, seasoned it and tried a frozen pizza hack.
You thaw the pie in the fridge.
While the grill and pan are preheating, leave the pie on the counter so it can get closer to room temp.
I did light olive oil and corn meal on the pan, but I think I'd skip the oil next time. I think it may have burnt the crust a bit. But still tasty.
Temp was around 425F, for exactly 10 minutes, watching it closely the last few minutes.
Turned out pretty damn good, best Tombstone pizza I ever made.
