OP as you may have gathered by now, all you're going to get with a thread like this is a bunch of trolling and people defending their purchase and/or a multibillion dollar corporation.

There are many tens (perhaps 100s) of thousands of 3rd gen owners who love their trucks and have zero issues. I believe them. There are also those like you and I who may not like everything about this truck, and want to do something about it. You're already aware of OVtune and now SSP. My advice would be put some miles on it (thousands, not hundreds), let all the learning happen and see where you are. If it still bothers you at that point and you don't want to lose $$$ on a trade, look into the fixes that are available. Stalk the OVtune, SSP, and re-gear threads. Ask questions.

You won't get anywhere in this thread.

This... If you have been researching since the 3rd gen has came into production than this thread is pointless. If you just searched for 5 mins on this site, it would have been blatantly clear what issues others have had.

Again, it’s not because you are new, but because you are asking others for the info that is retrievable. Every single day, there are threads just like yours. The answers are all the same. Don’t get butt hurt bud. Just do some research and it will get you further than a pointless thread.

Test drives don't give you the day to day feel. I think. I saw my truck in an ad and said I WANT THAT!! I slept on it and the next day it was mine. I'm a picky &^%$er but I learn to adapt or change what annoys me if I can. So with that said.

Mine is an automatic & I shift the hell out of it. HA. Yup! I'm one of those guys. I down shift it to save my brakes as well. Manuals are awesome, but I really didn't want have to change/pay someone to replace it when it wears out. Nothing I can buy would be perfect unless I designed it. I say if you hate the truck that much trade it in on something else.

I dont have a 3rd gen, but I can think of 3 gripes as a consumer off the top of my head. First there is no regular cab available. Second there is no five lug available. Third TSS is standard on all trims. Getting a 16, or 17 would solve that last gripe. The base model should be available with out TSS.

Well that just makes the earlier gens 5 lugs more valuable. Rarity, last of production, all that. I'm waxing mine up for Mecums this week. :D

20180716_132932.jpg 20180717_131518.jpg I love my truck and it will go damn near everywhere off-road. I can load my klr in the bed and still go damn near anywhere off-road. I can get a plethora of aftermarket parts for my truck. All that being said, whoever programmed the pcm/tcm may have been smoking large amounts of something because the truck shifts terrible and the throttle response is not linear at all.

Edit. I still like the truck and an hoping for a Toyota reflash to fix the issues.

Shit, all you gotta do is look at the current 3rd gen forum page on any given day at any given hour and see two or three of these threads as active...my truck shifts like shit, my truck won't go up a hill, my truck is anemic and weak, the 4.0 was a fire breathing torque beast and this thing is weak.....blah blah. Hell, TW would not be TW without a daily 3rd gen shift bitch thread.

...so, no, not buying that you did your research.,

Like any truck. Especially new to you. It takes time to get use to it. I have about 24000 miles on my tacoma (bought it used with 160000miles on it!) and I have actually adapted to it. I mean heck I traded in a 2017 f150 for the dang thing. Felt like I down graded at first but once you go out in the woods with a taco it's a game changer for sure. Love mine!!

I rented a 2016/2017 tacoma for a day and was amazed as how responsive it felt. Made my 2nd gen feel like a slug in comparison!

I bought my 3rd Gen, after very little review and only driving 3 different vehicles in test drive. I went from a full size Dodge gas guzzler to a 17 OR DCSB. It had just gotten to the phase of I was going to have to start putting money into it, to keep it running well and I needed something reliable/efficient for my round trips to the office. The only thing I have to say about the 3rd gen is I wish it had slightly more HP. I think my OR drives fantastic, but a smidge more HP and 1 or 2 mph would make my vehicle perfect for me.

I am also a new member. Out of respect for others time (and patience), I took a few hours to search and read other threads which answered my questions rather than having folks retype the same answers for the hundredth time. jmo.
