If the lowest part of our trucks, or any truck for that matter is our axles - why lift any higher than that? Sure you gain more ground clearance , droop and compression but wouldn't you be better off off-roading with a geometrically stable suspension warrantied by Toyota without throwing your CV's out of wack?

Your Differential is the lowest point. The only way to lift that higher is larger tires. To fit larger tires you need to lift the truck via suspension or body lift.

Lifting the truck using suspension lifts does provide more ground clearance for the frame and other mechanical hardware though. So lifting the truck does improve over all ground clearance in most cases since you can avoid your differential hitting things simply by driving over the high points on the ground with your tire (as opposed to the high point on the ground being centered under your truck).

Stay sleepless till you figure it out.

Make some drawings, or use a model to figure it out. Pictures vs 1000 words and all that.

One thing you are correct about. You can have too much lift, and mess up a lot of stuff. But that usually happens more in the poseur crew than in experienced off roaders.

If you could just put on 40" tires without cutting everything and snapping axles like crazy, then the ground clearance would be huge. Luckily with IFS vehicles, a nice 2" lift provides a lot of extra front ground clearance, making it very capable.

Also, that's why a lot of people like to go for a straight axle, to remove those angle issues, but then they start to break birfields.... hahah
