The OP is not legally allowed to bring in a 49 State Tacoma from say Arizona or Nevada unless it has 7,500 or miles showing on the odometer. If the 29 Palms owner is in the military then right there is a loophole or if he purchased a 50 State vehicle he was also good to go.

Currently there is about a dozen States that follow California's emission standards, that leaves 38 States that the OP could not just "fly & drive" a 2021 Tacoma back to California, unless he uses one of the several loopholes. These loopholes are very easily used that's why in my reply I used the word technically.

What model year AC? This thread is about a 2021 access cab.

The 29 Palms member I referenced is a Date Farmer, not a member of the military.

To my knowledge all Taco’s are 50 State/CA Compliant. Again, it is very commonly done. I’m on my third Truck (not a Taco) which was bought out of state. It’s literally done every.single.day. Legally.

I was ready to do a fly-N-Drive for my Taco since I wanted a fairly rare package (OR, Tech Package, 4WD with M/T). I was ready to travel anywhere in the West to get the truck I wanted and bring it home. Then I found the exact truck I wanted, for a good price five mins from my house LOL!

You can still get Texas made Tacoma's in 2021, MY 2022 is when they will all be from the 2 manufacturing plants in Mexico.

Well, looks like I will be ordering what ever I decide at MSRP. With a 2-3 month wait.
$500 non refundable dep. required. Not a problem.
Will just go white (like on my 85 SR5 4X4 and 1995 T100 extra cab. Both purchased new)

Just trying to decide between a access cab TRD sport (no options), or a V6 SR with SX package.
    TRD sport = $35,800 - SR with SX package ($840.00) = $30,715.
Not really about the $$$, looking for longevity. And the SR has less things to go wrong. (And prefer the rims)
But do like the sport susp. Will be one of the 2. Any opinions?

(Side note: no interest in a 2023 if they are going to look like the 2022 Flat nosed Tundra. Looks like it rear-ended a van and they tried an at home repair using flex seal products)

(No idea why there are 2 pics of the SR)

2023 model year has nothing to do with any future redesign.

Yes, end of 2023, in 2 years time. Already designed (production design is complete), which still waiting to see (deliberately left out).

I don't care for the huge (plastic) grill look on the new Toyota's or Lexus. Just me...
Lexus look like filter feeding whales..............

I'm not a big fan of the look either, however if I were in the market for a new Tundra or Lexus, it wouldn't stop me from buying one. In the case of the Tundra I think painting the middle-part of the bumper the same color as the body would help. Maybe play with some color options with the grill too.

If money isn't an issue, get the Sport. You'd be much happier with it overall.

SR might lack a few extremely common features, like intermittent wipers for instance.

Just a note, SR has intermittent wipers. No fog lights though.

    Wait.

Buy the truck you want. This one is about 25 years old, if you don't buy the truck you want, you're going to have that nagging for the entire time of ownership, which will probably be another 25 years if this is any indication.

    Check build thread!
Hey man, if you aren't gonna miss the extra 5k, get the sport. You don't seem the kind of guy to mod your truck, and this way you get a less basic looking truck, with a couple more options, and it'll last just as long. You can always just plastidip the sport rims black, or get them powdercoated, or just get another set of rims all together.

Don't care for the fake hood scoop is the main thing. . As far as mods go, I did put front and rear sway bars and Bilstein's on the T100 25 yrs ago.
Just not seeing that much extra on the sport over the V6 SR5 for 5k. And all the scoop does for me is effect visibility. :) Looks like they re-did the Sport options. No mandatory $1700 option tech. package this year. So, now it looks like $2000 rather than 5k like in 2021. (SR5 V.S. Sport) Just a guess. Hmmm

Just noticed 2022 prices are out. And the build your own is the 2022 model. Thats news.

Sport comes with Lunar rock as a color option, not so on the SR5. But am again going white. Just wanted to mention it.

A loaded out 2021 DCLB TRD Sport 4x4 is gonna run around 45 grand +, currently.
    Made in Texas.

From everything I've heard, the semi-conductor issue is going to persist well into 2022.
If I were shopping, I'd consider myself EXTREMELY lucky to pay retail for exactly what I wanted over the next 2 years ... and considering how involved Gov. is in the business sector now, maybe even longer.

Heard on AM radio this morning that companies who don't subscribe to JB's vaccine mandates could be fined as much as $700,000 for not conforming. WTF?

Well. it will be 5 months this weekend since I ordered my v6 access cab from Longo Toyota.
Nothing new to report. I call in and they have no idea, no up date.
Was going to be Oct, maybe Nov. , then Dec., then just after the 1st.Now? we have no idea.
Am not sure they have made any 2022 Access cabs? Anyone know?
Might just get my dep. back. But the 2023 redesign keeps me holding out for a 2022.
As I am not a fan of the new look. Smashed / flat looking front end etc.

Considered both models just a month ago. I like the sport grill better, but don't like the fake hood scoop. I went with the SR, in celestial silver, V6, 4WD, SX pkg, and a few assys. Perhaps I'm old fashioned/cheap, but I don't have an unlimited data plan, so don't need all the connectivity stuff, just my stand alone gps and dash cam - and like you said, less stuff to go wrong. This will be my 3rd Taco, not including my '91 (before they were called Tacoma), and never felt the suspension in my past SR's and SR5s' held me back in the outback of Northern Maine. My SR should be here in about a month, and as I think about it all the time, I can't think of any regrets for my choice. BTW, I keep my tacos for 10-11 years, and the grill on the sr looks similar to my '12, so for a change I picked up a grill like the Sport's from someone who removed it immediately from his Taco. I'll paint that flat black. Best wishes on your choice.

Ha, I thought this thread sounded familiar. I commented on the first page back at the beginning of August saying I was waiting for a 22 as well.

whelp, I’m still waiting for mine too (TRD OR, DCSB, Lunar Rock, and no premium package). Got kinda screwed on an allocation request back in October and now I have no idea when I’ll get another. Just put down a deposit at another dealership to try to increase my chances.
