I think the best I ever got (not in the Tacoma) was 9-10 years out of an early Optima red top, in my K5 blazer. That's pretty impressive for the Texas heat. I saw those kinds of numbers when they first came out, but eventually they started lasting no longer than just a plain old battery, so I stopped buying them.

Well, it's my only vehicle, and was for all but about 5 years of its life. Since mid-'18, though, I only put about 5k on it a year. Since then, I probably start it and drive it 3-4 times a week.

Nice. I replaced my original at 11 years old/110k miles and it was still working just fine! I decided that it owed me nothing, and I’d rather Replace it when it’s convenient for me...not when I need it most!
Replaced with another stock unit! OEM FTW!

Yep. Mine owes me nothing, but about 3-4 years ago a the OEM battery in a Kubota I bought new in '99 went south. That's around 17 years of life. That committed me to the cause of seeing just how long the Tacoma OEM would last - bought a jump pack right then, of course. :)

I would clean up the posts and apply some grease to keep the deposit from forming. See if you could add some battery acid and bump it to 20 years.

That's really impressive! I can't remember where the OEM batteries came from - some of the other Canada and Mexico produced Toyotas still used Japanese sourced batteries, which I'd assume are significantly higher quality than the throw-away (ie. recycle as early soon as possible) Johnson Control batteries that we have all over the place here. The plates in your battery must still be in good condition.

Printed on the lower side of the battery (under the bracket) it says it was manufactured in USA by Johnson Controls Battery Division (used to be based in Vermont, actually).

I think today those batteries are under the AGM label?

In response to the suggestion about cleaning it up and adding distilled water. I may have added distilled water 3-5 years ago when I did the same to the old Kubota battery trying to keep it limping along. Can't remember.

I still have the original battery from 2012 in my truck and I thought that was doing pretty good.

    About to find out. LOL!

And, it seems the solution to those who have shorter battery life is to not drive it like I apparently have not. For shame! ;)

Yup, periodically cleaning and greasing the terminals and checking water level (if it's possible and not maintenance-free) is probably good but at this point if I was the OP I wouldn't do a darned thing different since whatever he's doing is obviously working.
