But seriously, I would go to some local shops...they do put them on sale, especially as new models come out

I picked up my champion on a sale and paid WAY less than retail because it had been on the floor awhile

yeah this sunday I have nothing planned so im thinking of going to the different gun shops that usually have stuff. Sadly they still seem to ask a ton.

Few days ago we saw a sports afield 14 gun safe in a local warehouse place for $416 22 cubic feet. Might go check that out

Rhett, have you looked for a used safe store anywhere around you? This is the place I used to get a real safe, not some chain store rsc rated box; https://www.lackasafe.com/ . They ship, and you can look at used safes and get an idea of what a quality safe could cost you if you bought used. I can at least vouch for them that they recondition every used safe they get and they all look like new. If shipping is too much, maybe you could find a shop like this closer that you could make work.

When I bought mine twenty years ago I thought it was twice as big as I needed.
Wrong, besides my guns I have a section for important papers and documents. Girlfriend has her jewelry .
Get the largest you have room for. Two piece piano carts that cinch together and then pump up really help move them also.
Mine lagged to wall and floor, this is important as the rear wall is usually the weakest

Many of the safes you're looking at have composite doors. They are thick but not very strong. I would look for a safe with a plate steel door. As others have mentioned, you would be better off delaying your purchase, doing a little more research and saving enough money for a quality safe. I also agree with the comments regarding size. Figure out what you want, then buy a bigger one. Good luck!

    This is very informative:

The common theme here and one that I will echo is: Get the best and largest safe that you CAN'T afford. That was the advice that I was given more than 20 years ago and glad I listened. Like VaGlock I will soon pickup a Liberty FatBoy for my growing collection. Cabela's often has gun safes in the bargain den with a pretty good discount on them. Some were returns because they didn't fit and some are scratch and dents.

^ pedestal? Why aren't you bolting directly to the floor?

One of the main reasons is that if this room should flood I don't want the safe sitting right on the floor and water would get into the safe from the holes in the bottom and another is that I have a lifetime structure and foundation warranty on my house it would void that warranty.

Once that safe is on that pedestal and bolted to the outer double 2X4's with 4 inch lags it's not going anywhere plus the the pedestal is 4.5 inches bigger that the safe foot print making the safe a lot more stable when opening the door.

So the pedestal won't be secured to the ground? Just the safe to the pedestal?
