My FatBoy is mounted to a 6 inch high oversized pedestal of reinforced concrete and sits in the corner of my basement. This adds to the already massive weight of the safe and also gives me a six inch safety if water ever did get into basement.
How heavy is the Knox safe?

Buy the biggest safe you can afford.
Because a few years later, you're going to wish you had a bigger one. :)

It's your choice, but I might rethink that if I were you. I get your point about not wanting to mess up your home warranty, but an RSC really needs to be bolted down to something that's not going to move.

Looks like that RSC weighs about 800lbs, and while that seems absurdly heavy, even full of guns a motivated thief will have no problem carting it off. My RSC weighs 1100lbs (Amsec BF6032HD) and the delivery guys moved it in no time with two small pieces of pvc pipe and a refrigerator dolly, and they cared about not damaging my house in the process. A thief won't.

That being said if they're not going to just cart off your safe, the most common way to attack an RSC is to tip it on its back and then pry the door open. RSC manufacturers like to tout how thick their door plate is and how many bolts they have but physics wins every time. There are some videos on youtube of how it's done. If nothing else, it's interesting. If a couple of guys with long pry bars can get a safe open in a few minutes without breaking a sweat and not being particularly motivated, a couple of guys trying to not go to jail/get shot by an angry homeowner are going to be in and out in no time.

I know this all sounds like crazy edge cases, we all expect that if we do get robbed it's going to be some druggie looking for easy stuff to pawn but you never know. Maybe that druggie realizes you're gone for the weekend and brings friends, or maybe a pro thief casing your area notices you have an NRA sticker on your truck or whatever, and comes looking for guns and is prepared to deal with an RSC.

Ultimately an RSC/safe is a small part of a multi-layered security system. Watchful neighbors, cameras, alarms (including the 4-legged kind), physical security (door locks, thorny bushes, and flood lights), and safes/RSCs all work together.

If they want the safe that bad they can have it! I'm not really worried about them carting the safe off and someone getting into it. We have an alarm the safe has an alarm.

Liberty Franklin here...bought it brand new in 2004, have moved it seven times, survived one divorce (I kept the safe AND the guns) and it just keeps on tickin'.

Buying a safe is a lot like shopping for motorcycle helmets...would you buy a $10 head? :muscleflexing:

We almost bought the Franklin but the door only opens 90 degrees as with the Ft Knox it opens 180 degrees.

My only advise is to buy one that is larger than you think you need. It will fill up over time. I wish I bought a bigger safe.

I know this isn't really related to the OPs question, but does anyone have a favorite small safe for handgun they recommend? Not necessarily for truck, but would be a nice bonus if it were small enough for under seat too
