As soon as I read "clip" it told me all I needed to know.

Sorry man not to rag on you, expensive lesson learned and I truly hope you can get your truck fixed with minimal hassle.

wow, and here i thought tesla owners were bad about etiquette gun owners might be even worse...

what difference does the etiquette stuff make now? dude's got a hole in his truck. if he called it a magazine, would the hole have been smaller?

Chances are if he knew the difference he wouldn't have a hole in his truck. People who own guns but don't take the time to learn proper handling often don't know the other finer points such as the difference between clip and magazine. Equivalent to a "tell" when playing poker

It’s a litmus test. Someone who knows the difference between a clip and a magazine usually has knowledge & has better understanding of the importance of the 4 basic rules of firearm handling- which may have prevented the ND in the first place. It’s very fortunate nobody got hurt- these are the kind of things that make gun owners look bad. As Op stated, the bullet went through the floorboard only because there was a silencer attached; what if there wasn’t and his dumbass friend shot out of the side or windshield into another car driving down the road?
I know OP didn’t pull the trigger, but me personally- when I have invited a friend shooting or hand them a firearm, I ensure they know these 4 very basic but VERY important rules- in fact I wouldn’t have let them be fucking around with the firearm while I am driving and instruct them to wait until we are at the range, especially if it is not their firearm.
Not sure what a Tesla has to do with a firearm, Teslas are fast but they don’t shoot at 2,800ft/sec upto 500yrds

i dont understand why having a suppressor influences where the barrel of the gun is pointed. In a vehicle don't you always go muzzle down if holding it?

    What a shit show..

Clip/magazine, silencer/suppressor, you/friend, none of it matters. Don't drive around with rifles in hand....

Nothing wrong with driving around with a firearm in your hand as a passenger, if you know how to safely handle said firearm. The risk of a ND is no different sitting in a car seat than sitting at a table in the house clearing it to clean or something.

Is there ANY legitimate reason to have a firearm in hand as a passenger, other than actively defending yourself from someone or something?

Nope, really not at all, but it isn't inherently more unsafe just because you're sitting in a car.

some of you have never had the chance to shot a deer from a moving vehicle and it shows. Pro tip: fold the side view mirrors in, dont want any accidents.

You've made my point.. There's no point at all to have a gun in hand (unless actively defending) while riding in a car. As far as safety, we could both find reasons to make our points on both side of our arguments, so not really focusing on that; moreso stating theres no reason to be handling a firearm while driving down the road. It only opens the door for much worse problems (other than a ND).
