Not when your vin doesn't show up on their list. But my truck was made during that time frame. So I'm doing it anyway.

Do you need to know, or care?
Mine said will send out another letter when available, so kind of up in the air. Did notice 5 TRD Off-Roads sitting in the parking lot today that I assume are waiting for differential fixes. That sucks.

Just an idea , but if my truck wasn't on the recall list , I would ask the parts department what part number is my CPS sensor for my vin number, give your vin# and it'll pop up.
If the number ends with 89 it's the bad one if it ends in 98 it's the good one.
    Cheers

Too late, parts ordered and will be here tomorrow. I've spent $90 on a lot more useless things. I appreciate the help.

Same. Got the "98" yesterday - I'm in Canada though.

In all honesty, I also received a reply about the exact build date of my truck a few hours earlier. As it turns out, it was built on 11 Sep 2015 (six days before the recall start line for trucks and 4 days before the engines started to be affected). Hence not on the recall list.

I will be keeping/installing the "98", as even Toyota is not 100% certain what was causing the failures in the first place (read the DIR document). As stated above, there's plenty of worse ways to spend your money on these trucks lol.

Took my 17' TRDS in for the 5k service yesterday and the gentlemen at first told me he needed to order a part because I was on the ckp recall, then told me I wasn't and that I was good to go. Seemed odd.

03/17 build date so not within the recall year range, but have symptoms of a bad ckp.

I went through the chain at my dealership, starting with the guy who sold me my Tacoma. Sounds corny, but he's always been very helpful. Now, I didn't see in the email chain where the service manager got the info, but I did see his response as it was simply forwarded to me.

Unless I missed it, the door sticker shows month/year, not the exact date. The CKP recall is based on specific dates of truck assembly/engine manufacture.

Yeah, the month and yr, but not the day.... As this recall affects trucks from Sept 17th and on, I want to know what DAY mine was built, as the door says 09/15

Got my updated crank sensor today so I can replace myself. Not officially under recall but replacing as a precaution.
Noticed that my new updated sensor does not have the circle with the hash marks. Instead, mine has two lines as in an equals sign. The box it came in say the correct updated part number 90919-05098. Curious if I should return and get one that has the circle with hash marks?

I am not on the recall list and the only obvious symptom possibly related to a CPK problem is poor MPG. My truck is a 2017 4/17 build date. I'm really replacing it as a precaution and also because I plan on buying an aftermarket tune and I want to be sure that there are no possible known hardware issues that could be feeding the ECM bad data. When I put the new tune in I want to do everything to ensure it's working with good data. I am one of the folks who is not at all happy with the throttle response, transmission shifting and overall eng/tranny interaction.

Here are the differences I noted between the CPK in my truck and the new one I ordered, part # 90919-05098:

Old CPK: Has the hash mark that some people guessed meant it was good.
New CPK: Has the = sign on it where the hash mark was on the stock one.

Old CPK: It had these numbers printed on it "0971 02U28"
    New CPK: "0972 06U20"

All measurements were the same. The only other difference I noted was the stock CPK was a slightly lighter shade of black than the new one. That's it. There were no marks on the sensor end of my stock CPK like some of the people are reporting. I'm going to hold on to the old one for now. I will report back here in a few weeks how my MPGs look. I'm not really expecting a significant change, but I am hoping for one.

FWIW, I was on the recall list and my mpg has always been at or near the top of any TRD OR 4WD at better than 23mpg lifetime. My sensor was replaced a couple of weeks ago and mpg doesn't seem to have been affected. The slight misfire/stumble I had always felt and other reported may be gone but I need a bit longer before I make any declarations on that.
