Always wanted a set of hood struts, but didnt want to shell out 100$ for them. Knowing the mounts are probably mass produced, and the struts come in every length you could want, I went searching.

I found the same mounts, and a similar strut online for 60$ shipped. I ordered them the other day, should be here in a few days. Once I confirm they work for the tacoma, ill post up the links.

The only thing different is that the mounts I ordered are silver, but nothing a can of paint cant fix.

As long as the lbs of pressure and the length is about the same as the redline struts, I don't forsee any issues.
I am like you, I can't justify 100 dollars or more for something I won't be using all that much, or at least hope I won't be using that much.
I will be waiting to see what you think when you get the parts.

    Staying tuned for this one

While on the topic, anybody like to chime in on what makes the struts so awesome over the old fashion hood proper upper thingy? Is that the correct technical term?

You won't have the hood fall on your head if you hit the prop rod while working under the hood. Also it allows for more room to work under the hood. I have redlines on my mustang.

I’m with you... if I own my truck for 60 months, and open the hood once per month (which I won’t do, no need), then it’ll cost over $1 per opening if one goes the ”cheap” route. Just not seeing it... makes some folks happy, but I’ll use that same money for something practical instead (that’s just me).

Following. Do you think you'll be able to figure out a completely bolt on install with this stuff, or are you still planning on drilling holes like the Redline struts?

I’m not necessarily against the price, I may even buy the redlines at some point. Just curious what the purpose is, I believe hood struts are derived from racing which would make me think there is a functional advantage, I’m sure someone knowledgeable on here can provide the explanation.

While I believe my cylinder head wrestling days are over, I've done enough of it to know this would suck! LOL

My Dakota came with struts from the factory. It was nice to just pop the latch and raise it, and the hood goes up with minimal effort and you didnt have to hold the hood up and put the rod in place. However, I dont anticipate having to raise the hood as much on the Tacoma, so while its not a necessity as much as the convient factor, I am interested in a lower cost solution.

I can see how that would be a nice convenience. I open my hood a lot to check fluids, visual check, remove leaves etc.

Anyways , didn’t mean to derail the thread. Back to your regularly scheduled programming..
