Hankook vs. Geolander AT tires

    Getting really close to purchasing some AT tires. Looking at a set of 265/75/16. It will be between one of these two, this much has been decided. Of the two, which one has the best street ride and which one wears more slowly? Which one offers the most bang for the buck? Please chime in if you owned either for any length of time. Thanks.

    LT265/70/17 BFG A/T's, Disabled Seat Belt Buzzer, Black and Gray Covercraft Seat Covers front and rear, Matching SnugTop Supersport Canopy, undercoat, bed mat, window vent shades. Black Weathertech Liners. Trans TSB, Rear Spring TSB Installed.

    Had Yokohama Geolander A/T-S on my last rig (F150 supercrew). Excellent tire. Nice and quiet on the road. Living in the Northwest it handles rain, black ice, light snow and light mud very well. Had them for about 3 years with a little over 10,000 miles. Wear appeared to be minimal. Price was also good. The Tire Rack rated these tires in the upper end of all terrain tires. Bought mine through Discount Tire (they price matched the Tire Rack).

    3K on the Hankooks. As mentioned above, very quiet, very smooth, minimal weight to balance and you can still see where the "nipples" on the tread blocks were after 3K miles. Had my Prerunner in snow deep enuf to leave a track from the diff dragging 2 weeks ago. Just a hint of wheel spin w/o the diff lock. No spin w/diff lock.......

    Thanks guys, this is going to be a tough decision. Please keep the responses coming. They both appear to be a good value and have heard very little negative if any regarding either.

    The Hankooks are known for their light weight. For hauling and such are they load rated equivalent to the Geolander?

    Ive had the Geo ATS for probably 40000 (rough estimate) and they still have significant tread remaining. They look great and ride great. Had the BFG TA before and the Geo are much quieter and smoother a ride. I cannot comment on the Hankook but the Geo has been an excellent tire for me and the price is excellent, I think I paid roughly 500 for all 4. Had them in the snow here in Virginia this year and they performed well. I have never hydroplaned with these tires either.

    I've been running the 265/75R-16 load range E Geolandar AT-S and couldn't be happier. The road noise is minimal, and wear is excellent. I've put 36k miles on the tires so far and have very little wear to show for it. The tires also perform awesome off road. They have been put through some of the harshest dirt highways I could throw at them and hold up well. I'll snap a picture this evening if I get a chance.

    I have the P265/75-16s and they have a max load/pressure of 44psi. 32psi is more than enuf to hold up the back of my access cab Prerunner. In fact it's a bit too much as there's a bit too much chalk left at the edges of the tire for perfect wear. The fronts are perfect at 36psi.....

    I considered the Geo's when I was shopping fo tires this winter there were several things that pushed me to the Hankooks...
    1. 1/2 worn out Geos have no tread blocks left in the middle. Just a solid rib of rubber to sit on top the snow, ice and dirt and spin.
    2. 2 friends who have Geo A/Ts. Both complained about tread wear and traction.
    3. Had a customer come in with 2 seperated Geos (tread was "bubbled" in places) on his truck. My shop is an installer for Tire rack.
    4. Only complaints I could find on the Hankooks were from people running "P" or "C" rated tires on 3/4 ton trucks.....

They also have a more aggressive look than the Yoko's but are VERY quite. Last two things were the 50K mileage rating and I got them for only $125 per tire :). I couldn't be happier...

    I run hankooks and I probably will stick with this tire for a while.they do great off road and on road.with no road noise,and I'm running 33x12.50s

    I have the Hankooks and I love them. I've used them on dry and wet pavement, in the middle of a rainstorm, and on dirt and gravel and they hold their own. A friend of mine has the Geos on his Taco and he likes them a lot but I think the Hankooks are much more of an AT tire.

    OK guys, need your help. Discount Tire is out of the 10 ply. They do have the P metric Hankook which is a 4 ply. They are saying the 10 ply is for a 3/4 ton. Which one do I want??

    I have the P metric. I calculated it once and they are good to go up past the payload capacity of the truck. LT is overkill unless you are doing a lot of heavy towing.

    I have the P rated version. They work fine and have the same load capacity as the OEM tires. I'd only suggest LT if you were towing or doing a lot of off-roading.
