    Hello,
I have 2009 Prerunner w/5000 mi. On 2 different occasions I've had problems starting my truck. The engine is cold, I turn the ignition key to start and the engine turns over strong, no hesitation but engine won't run. I usally have to make 2 attempts at 3 second intervals and on the 3rd try the engine starts and sounds normal. No ruff idleing. No "Check engine" light, Nice and smooth. It's almost like the ignition system was switched off, then back on. Has any one else experienced this problem?

Are you holding the key long enough? I find that I have to allow mine to turn over a couple extra times vs other trucks I have owned. I am used to it now and seems to be normal for my case.

Two things I can think of.

The engine won't fire until there's oil pressure. If it's really cold it might be taking longer than what you're used to to develop enough pressure to run. How long were you cranking?

If you shut down the truck when it's at high idle it can cause the engine to be flooded making it difficult to start. I've had this happen in cold weather when I've only moved the truck a few feet to get at the snowblower.

had it happen once or twice but assumed it to be the oil pressure

Mine did the same thing. There is a TSB about this. I took it in and they reprogrammed the computer. It's been fine ever since. I think the TSB is called "no start condition".

i had it happen but i think it was just me not letting the starter turn over long enough. So i gave it a sec and than tried again and it was fine.
