I'm looking at different hardshell RTT. I've found a couple different options. I would like to get one that isnt bigger/longer than the short bed, I like this look over the regular RTT. It would only sleep 2 people at most. So I'm not looking at anything huge. I tried searching but most that I've found are longer than a shortbed.

    From what I've found:

    Ikamper
    Desert armor
    Pittman

Does anyone have experience with this style RTT? Thanks

@uploadadventure the thread you created about the desert armor is what got me thinking about other hardshell options. I knew about the ikamper hardshell just from browsing around the forum and youtube. Looking at pros cons of hardshell RTT and the differences between some of the hardshell RTT on the market. I think what really narrows it down for me is the fact that I don't want overhang and I dont want the "traditional" style RTT.

What made you go with desert armor vs others on the market? Did you consider any other brand?

@slowlane there isn’t much difference between the DA tent and the iKamper.

the one thing besides the price difference, is that iKamper has been around for 1 year longer than DA. Now I’m not knocking iKamper, they have a solid branded product. But what I like about DA is that they took the complaints from the original tent owners and what the owners have found along the way and put all those things into their new tent. So where iKamper lacks in security and extras, DA has.

I would go with the warrior. That’s the standard size. Will fit over the bed just fine.

Also. Tents are currently on the boat heading this way. So. 2 weeks. 3 tops (customs could potentially add a few days that’s why I say 3 tops)

My family is dying too. We’ve been using our pop up camper, but nothing beats a night out camping next to a river or a place you can’t get to without the truck.

just have to get an ac unit. Missouri is so hot right now.

True... I'm in TX and we are nearing 100° temps now.. ughh I've been trying to a portable solution other than a fan to help with the heat during the night in the tent.

The desert armor is nice for sure. All the standard features are pretty awesome, I also like there isnt alot of branding on the desert armor. I'm local too, so it be nice to support a local business. From what I can tell there really isnt any major differences between the ikamper and desert armor, outside of price.

I appreciate all of yours guys input. Do you have any pics of the RTT closed on the truck? Any issues driving at highway speeds with the RTT? The website says 70mph, I'm assuming liability issues.

Think this will run off a goal zero 500 with solar? Or what are your power supply options?

If you’re local you should 100% reach out to the owner, Alex. He’s super cool and will definitely help you install it.
    No issues at highway speed.
And if you need bed bars I know a good place to get them as well. 0742124D-10B0-4157-A3DC-85784A075125.jpg 71D96160-A2F5-4760-B207-8CB850A334ED.jpg

I have a small quiet generator. Harbor Freight sells good generators.

Theres a local fab shop here too that I've used in the past, i would likely use them for bed bars. What company would you have reccomended for bed bars?

    SOS Concepts.
Their new bars. They’re modular so you have the ability to add holders to the sides and underneath if needed.

+1 for the ikamper mini. Absolutely love mine and it is the perfect size for the short bed.
