john popper (from the blues traveller) is the best by far. I hear when he touches a harmonica, he feeds a kid in Ethiopia

I play a little harmonica. I would recomend you take that old harmonica and clean it real good to get out any gunk in the reeds(that's the part that makes the tunes). Obviously, since it's a little old it might not play as good as a new-broken in one. all harmonicas have expirations on them, no date printed, but you'll know it, cause it will start to sound like crap. They especially get worn out when you play the blues or bend the notes. Bending notes is key to playing the blues. It's a little more than just technicalities of playing. It's actually feeling the music man. My advice is to pick up a book or tab book for harmonicas at your local music store and learn the history of the harmonica and the different genres of music you can play with it. This way you can decide what to concentrate on. learn the rudementary scale and play simple songs. It does get frustrating, but keep at it. Key of C harmonica is the most common and you'll soon get other keys as you progress. All with due time. I'm no professional or even semi-pro or even amatuer, but I enjoy playing the harmonica and have read a lot and practiced a lot. I think I do pretty well, for self taught, but it is one of those instruments that takes years to play it good and probably a decade to master. Oh, watch youtube videos on "How to's" they really help a lot. Look out for these Guys, Adam Gussow from Satan & Adam, Ronnie Shellist. really good harmonica players that give real good harmonica how to advice.

I would love to learn it. I always have this image of playing a harmonica around a camp fire.

That's actually the best time, when everyone just quiets down and watches the flames jump around, you just pull out that harmonica without them seeing you and throw your head down and face the ground and push that harmonica to your lips and whale out a nice soft bluesy tune and everyone is like "what the hell". awesome feeling.

I want that! I'll be hunting/camping in a couple weeks and now it will just be us sitting around the fire in silence with no "what the hell" awesome feeling moment :pout:
