Has any one had their frame replaced recently?

I would take your to a dealer and tell them about it and see what they say. Just make sure you don't need a truck for the time it takes to replace the frame (if it is qualifies for replacement at this time).

Took it to the dealership (toyota of Greer) after being contacted by hal the service manager. My truck was on the lift for about 2 hours with a few guys huddling under it. I walked out and introduced myself to Hal and asked what the deal was. He said well we are going to replace the frame. I have a sweet camry rental and just have to wait i guess. Im just happy it went the way it did.

I just got my 2003 Tacoma back from the dealer (Toyota West, in Columbus, Ohio) after the frame was replaced. I am very satisfied with the dealer's work and I highly recommend the work of the two mechanics that were assigned to my truck.

Bought mine about 3 months ago but didn't know about the frame problem; I don't see anywhere the frame was touched but from what I can see, the frame looks pretty new. Should I take it in and have it checked?

Take it in. You can't make the decision if the frame is good or not.
That's up to the dealer but once it gets entered as checked, your frame warranty is good for 15 years from first use.
In other words, the frame warranty is extended to 2016 for your truck.

Just sent an e-mail to the dealer to request an appointment to have it checked out.

Hello I'm looking at a couple nice 1st Gen tacos (02's and an 03) here in NE PA and I was wondering if I bought one and it had a bad frame could I still get it swapped even though I'm not the original owner? Thanks.

Yeah just go to your dealer website and find where it say contact us and write a little paragraph. Or, take it up there and say I understand there is a recall(warranty) on the frame of my truck will you take a look at it.

Mine has been at toyota of greer out here in SC for the past 3 weeks. They quoted a month when I took it in and they called me a week ago and said it would be another 4-6 weeks. I got a free camry rental but i miss my taco. 35 mpg is sweet though.

I didn't have to bring in my Tacoma until they had the parts.

In on Tuesday, finished (with no problems) Monday morning.

Just got back from my appointment from the dealer; my frame, coils and springs were replaced back in December just before I bought it so I am good to go :)

I just bought a 2001 double cab. I'm the 2nd owner. Both the 1st owner and I live in FL. No salt on the roads here, but it might be worth checking out on mine too. If nothing else, I'll have some peace of mind knowing Toyota looked at it. It seems like the rust will be obviously seen, but a couple folks made a good point that the dealer makes the ultimate call.

Did anyone here have the frame replaced when it didn't obviously look to be in bad shape to the naked eye?

I've seen some in the dealers scrap pile that didn't look bad but all it takes is one poke through to fail.

If you take it for inspection, your "extended frame warranty" is good for 15 years from first use.

Your 2001 would extend the warranty to 2016.
    Take it in.

You live in Florida and no salt on the roads but you are close to the ocean. Lots of salt in the ocean.
Maybe the previous owner took the truck for a romp in the surf (very hard on a truck.)

OK, I have BIG questions... I had my frame sprayed last year, but my leaf springs are shot... Can I take it to a different dealer and get the springs replaced and the frame looked at again? I don't really trust the dealer I took it too.

Bought my truck a year ago from Freedom Toyota in Hamburg, PA. Took it in today for my free state inspection, and was told my frame failed and I also need a new tie rod. They were friendly enough and showed me a truck that was part of the way through the process... They're paying for my 2011 Chevy Colorado rental (which I already dislike after the 15 mile drive home from enterprise) until the whole thing is complete
I have some questions for someone who has already gone through the process:
How much were you updated as the replacement went on, and should I call them on a daily/weekly basis to see what's happening?
What parts will they replace for no charge? It seems to me a great idea- if they're already replacing the rear leafs, to buy new springs and shocks to be put on all around. Also, will they want me to buy those parts through them?
Did they let you come see the progress in the garage/take pictures, or are those pictures the mechanics took?

I'm sure I'll think of some other things, but I just got home after being at the dealer for 4 hours and my head is still spinning. I really hate that colorado!
Thanks for any information guys. I don't post much, but I read up on a lot of helpful or entertaining threads.

    You hit the jackpot!
I had my frame replaced. The labor to put the shocks on will be free. My dealer gave me a discount for new shocks. They will install either Toyota or aftermarket shocks. Work operation is the same and easier to deal with new parts, otherwise they would put your probably worn-out shocks back on.
The reason I used toyota shocks is because of Toyotas warranty regarding shocks and exhaust. If you replace with Toyota parts, the warranty (parts and labor) is free for life.
You might think about a new exhaust system.

They let me come in daily and take pictures. I even gave the mechanic a digital camera to take pictures when I wasn't there. They're just as proud of their work!

Dropped the truck off Tuesday morning, stopped daily to check on progress and take pictures.
Monday morning I was going to take more pictures but they were done and I haven't had any trouble.ust like a new truck. It was my mechanics 1st frame replacement. He did a great job!

While the engine/tranny were out of the truck, he replaced the clutch. Far easier when it was easier to get access, plus it was cheaper for me.

    Same with fuel filter.
One end is already off the radiator hoses so I had those replaced.

Used the same front springs but you will get new lower control arms (LCA) with the kit.
Same with brake lines, e-brake cable, hardware, new anti-freeze, brake fluid, A/C recharge and probably front end alighnment. I didn't ask about the alignment but they did so many things, I just suspect it was done.

If they take a part off, it will be free labor to put the part back on so you might think about parts that need replacement.

I recently purchased my 02 TRD 4x4. I took mine to the dealer to be inspected. It was fine, and the coating looks really good. I would take it in just for the free coating if I were you.
