    This.

I actually ordered some stuff to paint my bumper the same white as my truck. There's some rust (and a couple small dents) that I think will look better when it's painted the same color. Got some primer, paint, clear coat coming that I'm hoping do the trick!

Dupli-Color BPR0031 Gray Perfect Match Scratch Filler Primer - 8 oz. Aerosol https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00407RTBW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_g6DdrJMeljJl9

    Dupli-Color BTY1556 Super White II Toyota Exact-Match Automotive Paint - 8 oz. Aerosol https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00407RT6W/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_jq0gzbBWZQY8D

Dupli-Color BCL0125 Clear Perfect Match Automotive Top Coat - 8 oz. Aerosol https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00407NK6A/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apap_Kj3Y2Oa3hXPOE

Read about others using these, and it seems to work (I'm hoping). Just sanding it down and using these otta work!

The chrome bumper doesn't save Toyota any money. They just put it there as a deterrent. To tempt you into buying their lame upgrade packages.

Huh, never thought about it, but that must be true. They're all the same bumper, just painted different colors.

I'm not 100% convinced they are the same bumper 'just coated differently'. My SR5 rear bumper is smooth, the painted ones seem to have a fastener located near the outer edge. Just an observation.

I bet they'll be the ones to do the "TACOMA" logo delete on the tailgates. Someone posted asking about filling the logo indentation a couple of weeks ago. Just a plastic cap.

    a lot
    probably was me.

if it was real chrome I would either wrap it or have it powdercoated but since it's not I used paint.

Also I bought 2k clear coat which has a hardener so that should extend longevity vs the 1k stuff you normally buy.

I found replacement bumper caps at Rock Auto of all places. It costs a total of $115 shipped for both sides. Its the best price I could find and cheaper than eBay. The end caps were textured unlike the smooth chrome ones I replaced but I was fine with that. I left them the color they came which was slightly lighter than the black top step plastic on the bumper. They were close in color to the wheel arch flares color. Now I can keep the Chrome ones as spares.

Maybe you are noticing Sensors in the painted bumpers not a fastener.

No one here has actually pointed out that the "chrome" is not actually chrome. Chrome is a plating that is chemically bonded to the surface of metal. the stuff on the rear is a kind of paint on plastic.

Everyone's making this way more complicated than it needs to be. Just plastidip the thing black.

If you like it black after plastidip, then if it ever chips (it probably won't for 80% of the people here, myself included) strip it, sand it gently, use a plastic primer, and then paint.

Yeah, I think you are correct. The chrome bumpers on the red OR a couple of posts ago matches my bumper. Makes sense.

Hey thanks! I hadn't even checked RockAuto. It's about half the price there vs eBay or dealership.

I'm watching this thread closely. I have a quicksand, and the shiny chrome look just doesn't go. Still on the fence, if I want to go plastic black or color matched though.

I bought the unfinished caps from my local dealership for $100.00 each and took them to a local body shop for paint using the white Toyota paint code, and they installed the newly painted caps. All total was $400.00, totally worth it!!
