Has anyone been able to swap the "next song" button with "higher volume"?

Yes, Wrangler owners ARE the worst. And combine that with a shitty product and you have nightmares. Every day. I know, I'm in a Chrysler parts department.

But the switches in the "wrong" positions on the steering wheel? Wouldn't know, I never use them!

I drive 5 different vehicles regularly.
Nissan, (Dads), Ford Focus, (Aunts), Wife's Rav4, one of my FJ40's, and my Tacoma.
The Tacoma is the only one that has the buttons arranged this way.
(The 40 has an aftermarket stereo with remote. Up and down volume).
I can't count the times I have hit the wrong button in the Tacoma...
Not that big of a deal but seriously annoying.

This annoys me too. How much would you pay for a mod that switches it so that up/down controls the volume and left/right does reverse/forward?

Just an observation, 15 people saying it's an issue. A few folks complaining about other people complaining. If the button layout doesn't bother you, move on. It amazes me how many folks have that uncontrollable impulse to chime in and say stop whining.

No, I started with "just an observation." That negates any complaining.

"just an observation" is implied and unnecessary to state if one is making a comment about observed behavior. nice that you stated it though. and the top keeps spinning...

Kinda looks like someone could swap a couple of wires on the harness to change the button functions. Looks like 10 pins - 1 ground, 1 power, and 8 buttons.

looking at the hardware posted, it occurred to me a couple of mylar overlays (very thin) with traces and punch thrus might get the desired effect of swapping buttons.
not thought thru but feels like it might work. (assuming those pads work to complete a circuit like in a tv remote)

The fact that meso went with a custom pcb rather than a plug n play wiring harness means it's probably not that simple.

Someone linked to another thread on the first page about how it operates. It's resistance based on a shared wire.

I like your style. Your post reminded me of this quote.

"What? I said it with all due respect!"
"Just because you say that doesn't mean you get to say whatever you want to say to me!"
    "It sure as hell does!"
    "No, it doesn't--"
"It's in the Geneva Conventions, look it up!"

could be. I can't see the other side of the board, so there could be a micro controller hiding back there.

If I had one in front of me, I'd have a lot more ideas.

If it's a big enough deal to you, there's probably a wire harness that runs out of the steering column which contains four wires that could be cut and re-spliced to create whatever pattern you want in those buttons. Not sure whether it's easier to dismantle a steering wheel with an airbag in it vs checking a few dozen wires with a continuity tester to sort out which wire carries the signal for which button.

It might be possible to divine which wires to cross up in the head unit harness if you got a copy of the install instructions for the Scoche adapter for adapting wheel controls to work with aftermarket head units as well.

Any problem has a solution if you're motivated enough to find it.
