one thing to keep in mind is if you remove the restriction from one end, then you need to remove an equal amount of restriction from the other end.

if you add less restrictive intake system then you need to add less restrictive exhaust so the air in matches the air out.

if this is done in correct proportions you will gain power and it can be a noticeable increase, if this is not done, then you will lose power because the fuel air mix is off and wont burn efficiently which may or may not be a noticeable loss.

this is most noticeable on EFI motorcycles where you put big loud pipes that make plenty of noise but you lose power unless you mod the intake system to remove its restriction. most people have no clue and stop there but those who know better know that once the intake is equally not restricted, you get a great hp increase and a dramatic change in the power band.

I have deleted my cat. Runs perfect and at idle the truck sounds like a v8. not too much power loss, and no CEL. but i would rather soak my cat in water with dawn for a few days and spray it out, just to keep it stock. been running my truck for many years now

Keep hugging the tree and worried about what another man (law) says you can do to something you own.... Weak and feeble minded is an under statement TacoElmo. Do you know how much mpg you lose with those dam converters? Because i do. I can also tell you how to squeeze a few more mpg out of the truck, starting with deleting the cats. Dam fool...

Oh, i have zero cel and ZeRo loss of power. Zero. Truck sounds better, breathes better, responds better, gets better fuel mileage and is just all around better. I love the "in theory geniuses" that sit behind their screen repeating diluted and deluded b.s. They have only heard said before... I must say, the exhaust scavenging theory has me rolling! Op, look up some other threads, ill post when i find the good one i found. Cleaning mass air sensor, install intake spacer, you can install CAI but i doubt it gives me very little gain, if any, delete cats and you will not even recognize your truck, starting with the low end and the improved mpg. I have a good friend with these mods and multiple other and hes averaging around 3mpg more.

Your engine needs some back pressure but the scavenging everyone is talking about is generally handled by the headers, you can certainly create problems by opening your exhaust too much but unless your engine is highly modified and depending on your driving style its unlikely you will notice it. You can experiment a little bit changing the position of the muffler in the exhaust system but most probably wouldn't want to do that. Interestingly enough we used to run open exhaust on late models back in the day but some tracks started to require some sort of muffler for the noise and when installed bottom end power did seem to increase a bit, but then these were highly modified engines designed to run at high rpm. Why not gut the cat invest in the O2 sim and if it doesn't work out buy an after market cat.

I didn't have a noticeable difference in power when my cat was stolen and a temporary pipe welded in.

It isn't a sim in the sense that a third party made a product and called it an o2 sim, but it is a way to simulate an o2 sensor and it does the same thing that an aftermarket branded "o2 sim" would do.

Not an O2 simulator. Simulators have fuel maps and give diffferent readings based on other factors. O2 CEL bypass, is more accurate. It provides one "good" signal.

I don't really have experience in this department, so I may be wrong here or using terminology incorrectly. I would agree that CEL Bypass is an accurate description. Going by what the URD website sells as an o2 sensor, I don't think it does anything other than bypass the CEL by simulating an o2 sensor reading that is in the accepted band. Per their website: "Rear O2 Sensor Simulators are used in off road/racing vehicles to prevent the check engine light from illuminating and to prevent an ECU code from tripping (P-0420 and/or P-0430) when the catalytic converter(s) are removed for off road/racing use. URD Rear O2 Sensor Simulators are carefully calibrated to condition the signal from the rear O2 sensor to keep it in the range the ECU is expecting to see. DO NOT USE ON A PUBLIC ROAD OR HIGHWAY ANYWHERE IN THE UNITED STATES."

Small differences in the two but they do account for the price differences. "to keep it in the range the ECU is expecting to see", is the key part. To me and my understanding of cats/o2 sensors/fuel trims/ecu, The ecu expects a range based on certain circumstances (speed, load, fuel, etc). The true O2 sim keeps the computer happy by supplying a ranged (changing) value. The Bypass keeps the computer happy by using a value that "works" for all circumstances.
I'd prefer to keep my Cats, than monkey with it by using either method.
