Has anyone purchased a Warn 98054 Rear Bumper and got BSM to work??

I am looking for a BSM compatible rear bumper. I have seen C4fabs and I don’t really like it.
I have been looking at the Warn 98054 Bumper. I sent an email to Warn and I was replied with a yes it will work. But I got the installation instructions and they are very vague about it just saying basically replace the sensors you took off of the old bumper, with great detail about replacing the back up sensors.
Yes I have searched the threads and did find someone who has the bumper but he didn’t have BSM.

So the question is, did you purchase this bumper and do you have functional BSM??

I doubt they work unless they do something similar to C4. C4 has a plastic cover for the corners, because any metal in front of the sensors messes with them.

I hear what your saying but, on the Warn Bumper the have two cutouts in the shape of a W in essentially the same place as where the C4 has the plastic covers. If the sensors mount behind the W there would be no metal to obstruct them. B96B6F0F-7FE4-4B9E-B273-299FD2A9C453.jpg

Very interesting! Its hard to tell the size from those pics, but the BSM sensors are pretty damn big, so that W wouldn’t be quite big enough to fully expose the sensors. Anyways, this is all speculation so hopefully someone chimes in with real world experience.

Just for anyone following this. I have been back in contact with Warn, I sent the pictures of the sensors and where the y mount along with pictures from C4 installation instructions. The person I had been speaking to has now said he is unsure if the Warn Bumper is compatible and has forwarded the matter to their engineers. I have my doubts it will work. It just goes to show you even company techs are clueless. I think Warn is going to have to change its advertising that states this bumper is BSM compatible. It may be with other makes and models of trucks but not the 3rd Gen Tacoma.

Has anyone tried moving the BSM sensors into the tail light? Might need to recalibrate if it will fit?

Zero chance of making that work. The sensor units are huge and there's absolutely no space in the tail lights for them.

You may be able to take the sensor "unit" apart and to find/separate the actual sensor from the whole unit it's part of, and potentially relocate that sensor itself (by extending the wiring), but there are a lot of ifs and maybes in that approach.

They're huge, so it'd be a whole thing. And then they probably wouldn't work anyway.

Yeah, I doubt that approach would work, because the length of the wiring and the connections is almost certainly factored into the range calibration.

The first company to make an aluminum, high clearance bumper with backup and BSM compatibility wins my money!

That is interesting, curious to finally see what Warn says about it working or not.

Got a call from Warn. The BSM does not work with their bumper. They are in the process of changing their advertising to correct the claim that it does. They said their engineers are working on a solution and to check back in a month.

If anyone wants to possibly encourage Warn to make this a BSM compatible bumper, my contact at Warn is Myron King, his email is KingM@warn.com.

Just for information this is the sensor. It also controls the rear traffic collision avoidance system. That’s the one the beeps at you if your backing out of a parking space and Johnny Jones in his new Mustang daddy and mommy bought him, is racing through the parking lot. 9365D189-1D9B-48FB-9539-D9E9613F8649.jpg

This is how C4 mounts it. EF57E533-6147-45A5-B8BB-45CFB8530F3F.jpg
Warn might be able to pull it off with just a few modifications to their bumper. Maybe a little bigger W opening with a plastic piece in front of the sensors.

Any updates on this from Warn? I really want a rear bumper but don’t want to lose BSM.

Ford did it right with the F150. Wish Toyota had done the same.

Sorry to bump this old thread. Just wondering what options there are in late 2019, for a radar BSM-compatible rear bumper?
