You talking like Firestone airbags? Cuz I'll likely be putting them on for cargo and trailer tongue weight. Had them on the 02, loved em.

I haven't seen anybody use them in well over a decade, in real life. :)

Airbags will probably be cheaper in the short and long run and you won't have to get an alignment (I think)

Air shocks are very 60's/70's technology.

As you increase the air pressure you decrease the ability for them to control the spring properly, which is what a dampers job is.

If you want load capacity, air bags, helper springs or even a new leaf pack (and corresponding damper) are all better choices.

If you want 'lift' you have to decide why (clearance for something, or just pretty boy), then you can pick the proper part to get that well done.

Of course the right leaf pack will do both.

How do you align a Tacoma's rear wheels?

Won't your fronts be sitting different since the rear is at a different height?

I've always rear if you mess with the suspension get your wheels rebalanced and aligned, which is why a lot of people suggest Firestone's unlimited alignment/balance package for 160ish $

Maybe. Depends on how exaggerated the lift is. Once lifted rear only enough to screw up the front, the rear would be so lightened (weight shift to front) and the shock so stiff that the ride would be horrid.

Yes, if suspension components are changed, an alignment is in order. But only the front is align-able.

Suspension changes have nothing to do with tire balancing.

The only way to have a big box package anything is if one personally knows the manager of the store or the tech who was doing the work. There is just too much turnover in personnel to feel comfortable that the tech-o-the-day is competent and cares. Both are needed for a good alignment.

BTW, I do have a 3 year plan at a Goodyear store. The manager has changed multiple times over the years, but the two alignment techs have stayed the same. Both in their mid 40s-50's, both allow me in the shop while working, both ask the right questions. I got hooked up with them seeing some sports cars in there getting aligned by some other fussy britches guys.......... :D

I was suggesting me bringing up airbags. Yeah, I know the op was specific "not air bags ", but I was hoping to offer optional info. So, my bad. I didn't follow the ops instructions. Never happen again.
