I know guys have had luck at running without the 7th here (Albuquerque) and in Denver. Sea level may be more of a gamble. If you're going to try that route, I recommend the cooler plugs and t-stat that URD sells. Cheap way to attempt to avoid the pre-ign issues.

And if you can park it and wait for the 7th kit to arrive, no reason not to try without first. Just be ready to get off the gas pedal if you hear the knocking and the pinging.

    Does it hold compression?

I put mine on with 135k on the dial. No issues so far. The bottom half of the 5VZ is stout.

My boss put a SC on his 2014 Tundra. That thing is a rocket ship. Over 500 HP with no other mods.

Anyhow, at first he said his mileage went down. After a month his ECU seemed to re-learn everything and now he says he's getting better mileage than before the SC.

So yes, it's possible in theory. Of course if you drive it like it's a rocket ship your mileage is going to suck...

I've no doubt he's driving it softer. But his mileage is BETTER than it was before he installed the SuperCharger. Not sure how you explain that...

    +1.

Our ECMs don't do a good job of adjusting, so this is unlikely. FWIW, I could easily push mine into lean-out condition here at ~7K feet of elevation. Based on your username, I suspect you'll run into that problem a lot more easily at lower altitude. Note that despite the Kit's "better altitude compensation" and "pre-loaded start up program that's good for 99% of the trucks out there," I was disappointed to find my truck required additional tuning. (The post-install dyno run showed somewhat erratic power delivery and continued lean A/F ratios.) The guys at Rocky Mountain Competitive Research worked with Gadget to refine the Kit's tune, eventually achieving smooth power delivery with comfortably safe A/F ratios.

Having run mine cautiously for some time before taking the URD plunge, I thought/hoped the same thing. The truth of the matter is the truck ran lean, in spite of the altitude and even though I rarely heard pinging. (The dyno proved that.)

No regrets here, its quite loud i guess and my mpg is around 16-17 now. Also the max power potential is kind of low, i cant see this thing ever breaking 250whp even with all the supporting mods in the world...

look into meth injection as a 7th injector alternative, its significantly cheaper

Tacoma is stock and staying that way, Pickup is TBA as of now.
Superchargers won't wear down the engine any faster than stock if you treat them with respect. If it is installed right and you don't mash the skinny pedal everywhere you go, it will last many years and get a bit better MPG. They've been running turbos and S/C's on cars for years, look at diesel trucks with turbos that last over a million miles without a engine rebuild and tell me that these things contribute to engine wear. The operator is the guy who's in charge of engine wear, baby it, it lasts, rod it and it won't last.

    Exactly.
Had mine on since they first came out in 99-2k...can't remember, 1st gen blower with different add-ons. Really happy with my water meth here in the desert.
I have contemplated going turbo for years cuz I had an 86' turbo (22RET) 4x4 and loved that truck but still with the S/C.

No regrets here- but my truck came with it and I wasn't new to the game so knew what to expect, so IMO there is a list to help with regret vs. not regretting it.

    To not regret it:
    - know its just a little more power, it isn't some youtube vid of boosted cars dominating things. For me being my DD, its perfect, its like a V6 to a small V8 switch punching the throttle and getting into boost- its instant and not noisy and dramatic relative to other setups (open wastegates, BOVs etc). Its not a red-light racing king, it makes daily driving a little more fun when needed.
    - Fuel/timing management. I bought my truck used for an older gentleman and IMO part of the reason he was selling was he never did the management thing and it was pinging like crazy in anything other than WOT boost. I imagine it wasn't like this early on or he would have had his tuner brother fix it, I think lots of mileage later and it started to pop up. Don't be those guys that go half way or you will regret it, get good management, not some billy-bob backyard tuner half ass setup. After modding my truck myself (made the harness PNP, first to run an FIC, larger primary injectors, run E85 etc) but messing around with cheap fixes first, I'm telling you, do it right.
    - on that note, rebuild the charger before slapping it in. I took my blower strait to Magnuson and it had issues beyond just bearings, so it was good to have gone to those who make them.

I'm not too worried for my motor, this 5vz should go down in the history books as one of the most resilient semi modern motors of all time. The way guys here billy-bob tune and run no managment, pinging their way all the way up mountain roads is simply amazing. Many other cars/platforms will have blown motors early on. My truck had 190K on the OD when I bought it, has 220K now and has been boosted since 30K- many of the miles were with an S/C that wasn't tuned--- doesn't mean the OE ECU does a good job, far from it IMO, its these motors are stupid strong- I'm paranoid when I go into boost on the NA-T setup I have on my car and am looking forward to a 2jz-GTE swap to get the same warm fuzzy of reliability I get from the 5vz.

I have a CXRacing turbo kit just sitting in the garage for when my truck needs to go under the knife (engine finally goes)... I think it'll be into the 300K until that happens haha- and I'm not in a rush to install it as I'm telling you, the S/C so awesome for a daily setup-- no lag when you find yourself needing to get through a yellow light, passes smog with no drama, fitment and finish is awesome/easy install. Now the tranny, it is in need of some TLC, but a tranny guy I know is already blown away that the OEM tranny has gone past 200K period, yet alone most of those miles boosted (put a huge hayden cooler in early into my ownership). But some WOT pulls on the freeway will quickly end it's days, its slips pretty bad going WOT at speed. Thankfully for us TransGo makes a stupid affordable shift kit for our tranny.

    - long story short, no regrets vs. the other platform and forum I go to it seems like 9 out of 10 guys that boost get out of the game and/or sell their cars. Its moderate boost, the hardware made from an OEM for many OE supercharged vehicles, and with the right tuning/EMS setup makes the truck feel like it came from the factory with that setup. Just be prepared to work the tranny up later. Once I was tuned and making more power (2.2 pulley, good tune, water meth, sometimes E85) I could tell the tranny just couldn't keep up in some situations-- but daily driving and odd-ball WOTs to pass, get through yellows etc, no issues.
