has anyone removed them? Did they damage the paint?

Mine came with them but I don’t like how they stick out and ruin the smooth side profile of the body.
I’m thinking of removing them but don’t know how stuck on they are and don’t want to damage the paint.

Mine practically fell off (on my '16) that I just bought last year, I just removed them to lose the black line that was burnt into my vision. The paint showed slight scuffing but no major damage or anything to really worry about, just don't hit that door edge on anything.

One of mine fell off so I popped the other one off, it seems these are held in place by friction only.

Yeah I’d much rather have a clear strip, these are thick.
I’ll give it a shot but Tacoma paint keeps getting weaker and weaker so I’m concerned.

    Update:
Popped off pretty easily without much effort.
Thanks for letting me know everything was gonna be ok.

If anyone wants white door protectors in SoCal let me know.
Looks like they’ll go back on pretty easily too.

Toyota paint sucks! The only OEM paint I've had that's worse (kind of ironic because it's still Toyota) was on a Lexus. It was a black car and that paint was so soft and would show swirl marks if you looked at it cross-eyed.

Not fully true. Toyota million mile vehicles like the Land Cruisers have great paint. The cheaper vehicles don't.

Ummmm I think you mean your $41k Toyota is cheap. It's only $5k more than the average price of a new vehicle.

I’ve read and heard news that the average is now just shy of $39,000.00 for 2020.

im not sure if its a "cheapness" thing, rather A company of Toyota's size uses massive quantities of paint, and I can only imagine that they have been bent over a barrell by environmentalists to use "eco-friendly" chemicals, and the paint probably suffers because of this.

    just a guess.

My Magnetic Grey paint on my 2016 feels cheap. Tough to the touch and shows blemishes easily. I’m waxing it this weekend to see if I can revive it.

I once owned a Lexus RX350 in White Pearl and I thought the paint was beautiful. Felt like it shined all the time.

I did not opt for Toyota's overpriced door sill protectors.
I went and spent that money on Xpel instead.
I can cover the whole door edge too.
