With a wheel chock against the bed wall and the front tire seated in the chock the bike cannot slide forward so this is not a concern. Also unless you tie the bike down at the front axle you are past the pivot point so it would be darn near impossible for the rear of the bike to lift or at least lift enough to do any damage. If your thinking the bike is going to flip over the cab while possible you'd have to hit a immovable object head on at sugnificant speed. If that were the case I doubt the motorcycle would be the main concern.

Securing the rear wheel prevents side to side shift. Truck beds with plastic bed liners are slick Ive made the mistake of not securing the rear and had it end up 45 degrees and bang into side of the trailer. The rear will "hop" also over dips and rail roads and such. Better safe than sorry.

Having hauled lots of bikes in truck w/ plastic bed liners, rubber bed mats, bare metal beds or trailers with wooden decks, diamond plate deck or expanded metal deck I have not had happen to me what you describe, not even once.

For me it 2 straps a wheel chock and call it a day. If you feel more straps are needed go for it.

Me too, although I have actually Ridden mine more than I hauled them. I have had the rear shift. But hey, if taking the extra two minutes to secure the rear is too much......I dont give Murphey a chance to fk with me.

That's provided you have a wheel chock properly mounted- how many bikes in the back of trucks actually have a chock? When I rear ended that woman I was in my company Mitsubishi MityMax (or however they spelled POS for those trucks) and had tie downs at all corners but no wheel chock as it was a company truck. It'd take a lot for the bike to flip but the front straps are pulling the bike into the chock or at least forward if they are connected to the tie downs, the rear straps help keep it from going forward. There's a lot of difference in potential energy between a lightweight dirt bike and a larger bike like a cruiser.

Holy crap, I think photobucket has gotten even slower. Here- Pig on the back of a Tacoma.

We're liking the idea of the bike carrier that hooks into the receiver. But we'd prefer a heavier duty one than we need just for this bike. The carrier model we're looking at says it needs a 2" receiver with a class 3 or 4 hitch. I've got a prerunner with the towing package and I know it's 2" .... But does anyone know the class of the receiver? Thanks!

There is no mounting the wheel chock in the truck. Simply place it in the bed against the bed wall. The wheel chock does 2 things:

    1. Acts as an extra set of hands and holds the bike upright while you tie it down.
    2. Keep the front wheel from turning side to side.

my Tacoma was purchased to replace an 04 Tundra i used almost exclusively to pick up motorcycles. i haunt CL ads all over the midwest looking for vintage motorcycles that i put on ebay and usually end up going overseas.. the Tundra was a 4x2, 3.4 v6, 5 spd maunal. its biggest advantage was the 8 ft bed.
i purchased my Tacoma to perform the same duties just carrying the bikes with the tailgate down. had a hitch installed after reading stories about the tailgate failures/bending. solved that problem with a half inch piece of plywood the length of the bed with the tailgate down which has worked great with the four bikes i have so far picked up with it.
was a bit concerned about the performance of the 2.7/5spd at highway speeds with a 400-600 pound bike in the bike. last thursday i hauled a 400 pound BSA home over 200 miles on I-44 keeping up with traffic averaging 80+mph and beyond. think its gonna work out just fine.

    Get a single motorcycle trailer.

    Look to Kenda, Stinger, Ace......

Easy to load, easy to tow, easy to store. No fumbling or risk of dropping while loading into a high bed.

Many of these will fold into a small package that is easy to store.
