    Hey all,
I previously owned a 2007 Tacoma 4x4 that I loved. It had iver 200,000 miles on it and ran great. But once the 3rd gens came out I got rid of my 2nd gen and bought a brand new 3rd gen.

I hated it, felt underpowered and transmission had its issues. I followed the tread with all the “fixes” and for the most part the dealership never did make it drive better. So I traded it in for a 4runner (now the wifes/family vehicle). The 4runner is great for what it is, engine and transmission are much more responsive.

So now im back in the market for a pickup. So are the 2019 any better than the 2016? Im guessing they didbt change anything, but figured id check in first.

If its still the same, than im in the hunt for a 2013-2015 Tacoma.

    Thanks all.

Nope, same truck. If you didn’t like your 16 you won’t like a 19 or even 20.

Better transmission logic these days, but no mechanical changes. OVTune helps too. But if you’re already soured on it..... it’s unlikely that it’s better enough to overcome your concerns. Find someone local to take you out.

I really don't know what people are talking about with the transmission hunting for gears or the engine being unresponsive. My truck drives like any other automatic vehicle I've ever had.

They weren't. I'm going to get my wife a 3rd Gen eventually. She likes them better.

Buy a Colorado ZR2 if you want a midsized truck & didn’t like your 16 Tacoma. The 19’s are no better. At least with the ZR2 it should retain a decent value over a standard Colorado.

Minor changes but between the 16 and the 18 I can’t tell the difference. Still a good truck but your issues will be there. Maybe what 2026? Aren’t these on a 10/11 year cycle

No issues at all with mine. I've read some people are not happy. I had an 04, the 19 is just as enjoyable.

New Tundra within a next few years - Tacoma's in the middle of it's Gen cycle so it would be awhile if you weren't happy with the transmission.

It depends on where you are driving. City driving, I have zero issues with the tranny. Hills and on the freeway, the poor truck gets confused. It’s not a huge deal, but I can see why people would get frustrated. I plan on getting a tune when the truck is out of warranty

I have zero complaints about my ‘19 MT. O-60 in 7 seconds? In a truck? Amazing. We’ll see how I like towing a 2800 lb camper this summer, but otherwise I couldn’t be happier.

Oh, except for the gas mileage. Not the best.
