Unfortunately the door distortion happened to me on my then 1.5 year old 2020. I almost made the mistake of strong arming it back into place after fuelling up. Researched the issue on here and found out it just needs regular lube on the hinge. I immediately went out and sprayed a lube on the hinge and it fell right back into place. Averted any long term damage. It then acted up again about 8 months later. This time it started to creak when I opened and closed the fuel door. Again, a shot of lube it stopped the creaking and opened and closed like butter.

I attribute it to, too many hand and drive thru car washes. By hand, I would specifically wash the fuel door inside and out. Also we had a real rainy fall coupled with a major atmospheric river of rain. Basically dried the hinge out and it started to bind. I was shocked that a less than 2 year old truck did this. Since then I’ve kept it lubed up.

Reminds me I better go out and lube it again. Rainy season started here.

As others have noted, I have learned alot reading through this forum and see how others addressed/fixed the issue. My 2010 has a "fuel door problem" (will not stay shut). I cleaned the hinge, silicone lubricated it and while it's not perfect the door/latch now stays closed. The metal tabs seemed to have come loose so on a warmer/dryer day, I'm going to see if the outer body piece (to the door) can be re aligned and tightened up.

My sport is 3 1/2 years old and still no issues with the gas door. It gets sprayed at every maintenance as it is part of hinges and door lubrication.
