Ok, I bought my truck in August of 2009 and it had that known issue with the factory head unit not working properly. It would cut off on its own and some of the controls continuously malfunctioned. Plus it just sounded like crap (plain HU, no JBL and no changer). The dealership said they would order me a new one and install when it got in. After a week of no music it was driving me crazy so I picked up a Scosche install kit used off of eBay and pulled a nice Sony HU I had in my Jeep and threw it in. The Sony has a front USB port and so I can run my Ipod off the HU controls plus it keeps it charged. The sound is dramatically improved now, as well. I lost the steering wheel controls for now but the HU has a wireless remote so not a big deal.

So here is the dilemma. The dealership sent me an email yesterday that the new HU was in and ready for install, almost 5 months after buying the truck. I am not really interested in putting another factory unit in since I already have the upgrade installed. Should I take the new HU and sell it? See if they will give me the value as a discount on something else like a bed extender or what? Not sure how much the dealership will work with me on something like this.

    Any advice? Thanks.

I'd inquire about a "dealer credit" first, and if they bite, go for some kind of accessory.

You can get the new HU and sell it, but your not going to get much for it.

I sold my OEM 6-disc HU on ebay for $80, and that included shipping. I don't see where there would be much demand for a HU without the disc changer.

    Stock. Purchased 2/17/19. Cement!
Never hurts to ask the stealership if they will give you credit instead of taking another POS. If not, take it then sell it, but you may not get a whole lot for it either. FYI!

Thanks guys for the input. The dealership would not do a credit so I have the new factory HU sitting in the garage for now. If it is not worth much I may just hold on to it just in case. Thanks again.
