So I ordered a Pioneer head unit from Crutchfiel for my ‘17 Tacoma. I was told that it would all work with CarPlay and my existing Sirius and GPS antennas. I wired up the harness and there was no plugs for the antennas. They told me I need some adapters so I bought them. Adapters come and the Sirius one is a direct fit but neither GPS ones work. Now crutchfield is telling me that there is no head unit that has CarPlay and will work with the OEM GPS antenna. Is this true? If it is true then what’s the point of GPS adapters? I’m so damn frustrated. I don’t want to run the included antennas because it seems completely pointless when I have built in antennas already.

Also, why can’t I just cut off the plug from Pipneer’s antenna, cut off the adapter plug and then solder the Pioneer plug to the adapter? Would that cause an issue?

Antenna cables are typically coax cable, to splice it correctly you’ll need some know how to make them connect without screwing up the impedance.

I would look for adapters from another supplier.

My Pioneer works perfect with the factory GPS antenna and one of the Maestro adapters. Not sure if there are differences between the 17 and 21 wiring, but on mine there are 2 factory plugs that had the same connector and one of them is the GPS signal. I switched mine up at first and it registered as not being connected. Once I swapped them I was golden.

I wouldn’t think there’d be any difference in the wiring but maybe there is. All I know is that the adapter definitely does not work with the Pioneer head unit.

The one on the radio kinda looks like a BNC, but some focus would help. Hard to tell with the antenna cable from that angle / also blurry

I THINK I found an adapter. In the radio it’s a FAKRA male. I found a FAKRA female to HFC III female adapter for a Subaru GPS antenna. Hopefully this is the fix. We shall see when it arrives. $20 for a 6” adapter! Still, I need it.
