So I started to notice a louder noise coming from the engine compartment...

Immediately thought it was an exhaust leak, just did not know where. I took the air intake off then removed the heat shield around the header on the engine and noticed I have a nice size crack running clear around the header. Obviously the leak I was hearing.

Have you guys ever experienced this problem or know of how this could happen? I have never heard of such an issue and seems like an odd spot to crack.

Also, since I need to get a new header, is there any headers out there, aftermarket that is, that would be good to upgrade to?

I am already expecting to dish out a large sum of money to get the header replaced so I might as well upgrade while I am at it.

by header you mean exhaust manifold right? I have heard of them cracking on the stock manifolds...but never on the headers.... probably be easy to find a stock manifold if thats the case since alot of guys switch to header, I will once I have the cash lol

I was on the Northwestoffroad website looking around for headers to upgrade too from the stock exhaust manifold. Noticed that they do not fit the automatic 2.7L engine

Do you guys know of any Header upgrades for a 1998 2.7L 4Cyl Automatic Xtracab?

    I appreciate it

Well the manifold has got a crack running clear around it... not sure what all a repair would entail.... but I was looking to upgrade anyway to hopefully get an increase in HP/Tq and maybe even MPG.
