    Hello,

Fairly recent owner of an 03 Double Cab. Question is: Should there be a warning chime/buzzer when the headlights are left on? I can remove the key from the ignition with the headlights on, and there's no consequences.
I know, eventually, I'm gonna leave the lights on sometime and return to a drained battery.

    Thanks

    Itchy Dog,

Doesn't yours go off when you shut truck off?

    Mine does????

Do you have a remote starter----- I do-- don't know if that does something??

Nope to both: No remote starter and the lights stay on when key is removed from ignition with no warning chime. Doesn't seem right...?

I don't have a remote starter, but mine go off automatically. I believe its when I open the door though instead of when I shut it off, which is a good thing because warning chimes just go in one ear and out the other for me.

I know my lights don't go off until I take the key out and open the drivers door. The thing I hate is when I open the Pass. door to take out a cd or something like that after I take the key out and shut the door I have to go all the way around and open the door to get the lights to go off.

My headlights stay on no matter whether the door is open or closed, key is in the ignition, or what have you. I thought maybe there was a delay timer and they'd go off automatically after 30 seconds or so, but no dice. Sounds like it's different for everyone ;)

I'm pretty sure mine go off when I take the key out... I've never really paid attention but I know they won't let me leave them on.

Mine go off when I open my door, which is a cool feature since I drive with my lights on all the time so I just leave the switch on all the time.

If the lights are left on when I open the door the alarm chime will go off, its saved my butt a few times :D

I read in the owner's manual that the headlights should go off when the key is removed from the ignition:

    1. When the driver's door is open
    2. After 30 seconds

Since neither happens there must be something disconnected or broken in the door courtesy switch, but I'm just guessing. Gonna have to poke around to try to find what's up.

Mine go off as soon as I open the door but i think the dealership can flash it to make it a set amount of time or make it to where they dont shut off at all. Maybe a previous owner got it changed so they dont go off?

I'm bumping this old thread as I came across the same problem.

    2004 Tacoma Double Cab:

    No daytime running lights.
No headlight warning chime if I leave the lights on, turn off the truck, open the door and walk away.
No automatic turning off of the headlights either.

Does the 2004 just simply not have a headlight warning chime? Seems silly they'd get rid of it. My 1998 has the headlight warning chime if I leave them on, turn off the truck and open the door.

One thing of note: the previous BroDouche owner of the truck had HIDs installed at some point. I've since deleted them but it was a super simple process and didn't involve circuitry. It was a plug and play application that I simply unplugged and re-plugged in the factory headlight connectors.

My ‘04 headlights go out when I open the door, maybe it’s an SR5 thing?

My '96 has a headlamp on warning if the lights are on with no key in the ignition. It has saved my bacon several times.

My 03 DC limited turns off the head lights when I open the door. Really glad this works that way since I leave my lights on all the time.
