Headlights

I have heard that putting HID's in stock housing is bad. So I would assume throwing this in my stock housing would be stupid and very dangerous..
Would putting this in my stock housing be a bad idea and dangerous? I really want the 5-6k output but I just can't see myself spending $800-$1000 on retrofits. I don't want to be stupid and put something in my headlights that could possibly blind someone and cause an accident though.

 

More than anything, it's courtesy to other drivers to not install HIDs in halogen headlights. The drawback with LED headlights (from what I understand) is that they are either unreliable or don't have the same lumens as even halogens. I could be wrong though, but there are a lot of threads on TW about LED headlights.

Since you're asking...

Buy a set of headlights and do your own retrofit. It'll be cheaper than paying someone to do the retrofit for you, and as long as you're patient and are careful with the retrofit, you can build your own set of awesome headlights. There are scores of people who have never tried anything more complicated can making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich who have successfully retrofitted their headlights. It's less hard than it is time consuming. TRS has released the D2S 4.0, which from what I understand, is extremely friendly to the DIY'er.

Philips is the only reputable manufacture that I am aware of that makes a drop in LED replacement, though they are for right hand drive vehicles, so not actually correct for US left hand drive.

Before I installed my HID Retrofits I was running HID's in stock housings and everyone was flashing their lights at me! In stock housings they create light spray and the light beam is not focused anywhere. It's all over the place. HID's are bright but I've seen some LED's that are brighter. The difference is, the HID's shine farther down the road. The LED lights shine really bright, but not as far down the road as the HID's do. I use my light bar for my high beams. Although I do have high beans too. And my HID's are very bright but focused since they're inside of a projector housing. I use 5500k OSRAM d2s bulbs. Here is a picture of the bulbs I use in my retrofits. Retrofits aren't that expensive to build. Just very time consuming like @Biscuits stated.
