Warmed my truck up for 10 minutes this morning with the heat on full blast. Went outside and it was barely warmer than the outside and the two middle vents weren't working at all.

    Is this normal?

My entire 30 minute commute I had the heat on full blast, with the fan speed all the way up and it wasn't that warm until the last five minutes.

If you want the heat to come on quicker, don't run the fan while the engine is warming up. With the "heat on full blast" you are effectively transferring the little engine heat into the heater core radiator and the engine will not warm as fast. Also, make sure you are on RECIRC. Wait a few minutes after starting and gradually increase the fan speed. It will heat up.
My daughter called from Iowa; "Dad the heater is not working in my car (Camry). The controls are set to heat but only lukewarm air."
Me: "Try turning the fan to low and drive a few more miles"
    Her: "It's working now"

There is no control valve.... Full coolant flow through the heater core all the time. Temperature is controlled by the blend door.

In sub-zero or single digit temps your truck might not ever get to normal operating temp. I had ice on my windshield the other evening on my way home from work, I had the defrosters on high all the way home and 40 minutes later I still had ice on my windshield. It was blowing hot but the windshield was so cold that it did not warm it up enough to melt the ice.

I am on my 8th Toyota product spanning 1984-2015... not a one had a heater worth a damn. Not Toyota's strong suit in my opinion.
