So the one thing I had forgotten about and didnt expect has got me stumped. I have completed the work on my drivers door mirror and it is done. I'm now to the point where I pulled the passenger door mirror from the truck and need to remove the mirror from the housing.

What I had forgotten, is that my truck was hit by a tree several months ago and damaged, including the original mirror getting broken off. I then took my truck to a family friend who owns his own body shop and had it the truck repaired including replacing the entire mirror. The problem is, that while the mirror looks completely stock, it evidently doesn't fit or mount the same way as the stock seems to, so I have no idea how to even remove the glass mirror part it to see if the new heated mirror might somehow fit because the two slots where I need to put the screwdriver in dont seem to exist.

Anyone have any ideas, suggestions or experience with this problem??

    Second question:
While I'm trying to figure out how to deal with this passenger mirror that isn't certified toyota, I'm wondering at what stage can I leave this in? In other words, can I still complete the rest of the installation (outside of anything specifically related to the passenger mirror), and run it like normal for the next day or two till I get the mirror situation addressed, or will that possibly fry anything?

You would be okay with the kit partially installed, I would just leave the add a fuse not connected and then no power will be supplied to anything in the harness. As far as the mirror dilemma that is a new on for me. I guess you could talk to the family friend and see if there is a heated option for the aftermarket mirror housing he put on. If not then you might need to find a used OEM housing to put on.

Andretti what has happened is that the body shop put an aftermarket mirror assembly on your truck. Sadly your only option is to find an OEM mirror assembly, nothing in your current setup will match anything that Toyota built. Yes it looks and is the same size but everything from the mirror to the drive motors are not interchangeable with an OEM unit.
The mirror itself can't be removed from its backing if you wanted to try a heater pad as the mirror is held in with some sort of super RTV and you will just break the mirror trying to remove it. This mirror is not available from anywhere that I have found.

Thanks for the comments and suggestions. I just went ahead and bit the bullet and ordered a mirror from Toyota. Once I get it, I will get it painted to match the truck, do the mod, and then swap it out with the one that isn't factory thats currently on the truck. It may seem a bit extreme, but (while I have NO issue what-so-ever with the price of the kit to do this mod), I'd still rather not spend that kind of money to only get 'half' of the project working. I use both mirrors, so only having one that heats up really isn't an option.

That all being said, I did go ahead and finish the rest of the install. All I will need to do once the new mirror is painted is do the mod, then put it on the truck and plug it in.

Still, even with the issues I've had, I'm extremely happy with this kit and that I was able to get a hold of one. Thanks again for the opportunity.

Andretti no need to paint the cover on the mirror as you can order them in the color that your truck came in. They are all the same price be it black or red or blue.

So as a 2015 owner who wants heated mirrors is there a Toyota P/N with the little blind spot mirrors in the corners as an option?

The left of steering wheel switch will also fit in one of the upper outer segments correct?

I have a M/T and my clutch start cancel is in the middle.

It will fit on the top row yes. I only had 1 blank on the top middle and there was enough space and wiring for it to fit with no issues.

I'm not usually doing much on the heated mirrors during summer as it's a busy time for me (and slow time for heated mirrors lol). They are still available though.
