O.K. guys got to work on the mirror mounting a little more yesterday at work.
    1. Due to the indentation behind the stock mirror I need to come up with a filler so these mirrors will have a flat surface to sit against.
    2. Also as you saw in the earlier pics the miss match up of the mirror to the door frame.
I am in the process of making up some aluminum spacers to fill the indentation so the mirror will fit flat. Should have them done this week.
Well I made up a rubber gasket that will hide most of the mismatch. I went to my local auto parts store and got some rubber splash guards. Then I made up a pattern and cut them out from there.
Here is a couple of shots now.

The third thing is the stock appearing switch. The one I wanted to use is just slightly less wide. The first one I posted with the heat switch on the right side is the same size but I am not sure if I am going to use that one or not. Here is some comparison shots.

    mirrorpics043_e774c9fbea6f3065c796af055c84a7ffe8a7bf57.jpg

And the one I might use.

    mirrorpics042_586f4f811f51f9e5c395e6a54a5ab78b3a928d51.jpg

Have a few other switch options I am looking at. So bear with me.

Should have the mirrors permantly mounted next week if everything comes together right.

    edit
p.s. will have white mark cleaned off of mirror corner before permanently mounting. Used mark to sand corner to fit indentation.

Looking good there! About how much money have you spent so far? I really need heated mirrors here in NY, and towing mirrors wouldn't be bad to have either.

    Piercedtiger,

I live in oregon and the place I posted for the mirrors is in Calif. so both mirrors and shipping came to $226.00.
I picked up some heat treated bolts 6mmX1.0 and about 2" length cause the studs that come with the mirrors do not have threads the whole length. I also picked up some fender washers. The studs and the washers came to about $6.00.
Then I went to a autozone and picked up the fender flare splash guards and a two wire connection to do the gasket and the heater wiring. I paid about $22.00 for all of that.
The spacer material a friend had some left over aluminum so it did not cost anything.

So far I have a grand total of $254.00 in this conversion.

The two mirror switches I have bought I did not add in yet as I am not completely sure if I am going to use one of them or another switch yet.

Those mirror siwtches were about $15.00 ea.

So there you have the brake down of my costs.

Thanks! About the same as a set of muth heated signal mirrors IIRC. More functional too. I'm torn though. Heated mirrors and larger field of view for towing or backing up in general, but less clearance in my barn or offroading.... Decisions, decisions..... :D

O.K. now that I've got them mounted thought some of you might want to see them.

But first a warning. The info I posted on the mirrors with a link to the dodge truck site, well the wiring info he gave for the mirrors might not always be correct for the mirror you purchase. One of the mirrors I got the common wire was blue and the other mirror the common wire was yellow. Any way if you do get these mirrors use a jumper wire from your factory connection at the door to the mirror wires to determine if they are working in all directions correctly.

After mounting them at work yesterday I drove home 30 miles freeway and surface streets. They were stable as factory mirrors. This morning I put them in there extended position and drove to work. Stable as could be. No wind buffeting or noise.

First shot shows them in normal position with another Tacoma beside it with the wimpy stock mirrors.

Now extended you can see what an improvement in towing they will be.

    Any Questions?

They look great and very functional. If I needed to tow a lot, I would do this in a second. Great job!!

One question, when you extend them, is that by hand or electrical with the switch?

gavonder they are flipped up by hand. Then the power adjustment works the same as if they were down. Must have a rotating switch in the head so when the head changes position to the extended the wiring switches to a different position to adjust mirrors.

Dang .. I'm jealous now. I tow a 26' travel trailer and use a set of McKesh mirrors now. I'm going to have to tag this thread once you're finished. Cool deal!!!

I've been wanting to do this but I own a '00 taco, which seems to have a smaller body than the newer taco's. Do you think these would work with my truck and if they did, do you think they will stick way too far out and make it look way to goofy?
