Just had a question on first GEN tie rods are they the same for the 2wd and 4wd I need a new set but advance auto says they can only get the 2wd tie rods just wondering if there's any difference. I used the search function above but could not find anything. If anyone has any experience changing them out please let me know advance auto is running a sale here locally and I can get 25% off why not save a little money.

typical...Autozone or Napa usually can tell you if its the same part number...just have to specifically ask them "is that the same part #" :frusty:for 2x4 and 4x4

Just called Napa they did confirm that the 2 wheel drive and four-wheel-drive are both different part numbers. Bummer I could've saved a couple bucks no big deal though

I'm fairly certain a Prerunner 4x2 uses the same tie rods as the 4x4. Whereas the 5 lug 4x2 is a different style. So simply saying 4x2 vs 4x4 is not enough info.

Yup, what he said, six luggers use the same tie rods, 2wd or 4wd, 5 luggers use a different outer tie rod...
