I like when they just fix themselves.

That can lead to some serious grinding, which is good.

Follow up: took it in for the scheduled 5k, it's been only in 2WD since the incident, tech and I drove it around trying 4L, 4H, to 2WD, no issues, no codes, nothing at all. They had no explanation as to why it would be stuck in 4H for so long then randomly return to 2WD. I still don't feel a whole lot better about the issue, though at least I can use 4 again.

Thanks for your insight, hadn’t heard that one yet, but if you can find a way for a user to make the actuator stay stuck in 4H for over 24 hours of repeating every possible attempt by the book let me know. Most likely either the plug for the actuator got wet, or it seized due to being so new and not used much then cooled off and released. Fair warning to others, as I’m also not the first user to experience this factory error.

I have a feeling that is less of an issue. Where I live, there is water EVERYWERE.. lets not forget snow. Never had an issue with 4wd.
Now lets talk about how you disengaged it.. that is where the issue initially started. You stated you were driving when disengaging 4L.. which is not recommended.

Play ignorant. Just say something feels weird. Let them figure it all out. Give them as little info as possible. Otherwise they will claim you were negligent.
