Cut the rotors off w a cutting wheel. Be careful. Whacking them too hard not only subjects the wheel bearings to beating but I don't think you alignment ect will like it either.

To break rotors free, hit the rim straight towards the center. Like you're trying to shear off the studs. Don't worry, you won't. Just don't miss and hit the studs, or you'll mess up the threads. Several good whacks will break the most rusted rotor off.

Nev-r-seez is your friend. Buy a can and use it. Behind rotors, all threads. Note that it is NOT grease, so don't use it on slider pins and such.

One small can will last for decades. I've had the same one since I moved in here, (which was 1986) and it's still over half full. I do all my own brakes, so it's serviced a lot of cars over the years.

Is it really taking this dude 2 1/2 years to get his rotors off?

I wouldn't have revived this but it is the one that schooled me and got the job done.

Doing a pad/rotor upgrade to my 2011, and painting the calipers. I removed a bolt holding the stock air filter to the wheel well from inside the engine bay. Used it to insert through the provided holes on the stock rotors, and they came right off. Put the 12mm bolt back.

Having a busted left hand atm, this came in real handy.

Erik - if you happen to read this I just wanted to send my thanks - the bolt made it easy. The caliper bolts were another story - heat and penetrating oil along with a healthy dose of elbow grease!

    Cheers!

Found this thread helpful, thx! I have the rotors without the two screw holes, but I found a workaround: I screwed one of the caliper screws back in its hole (without the caliper). It's long enough to come in contact with the back of the rotor. I put a wooden shim between the screw and rotor so as not to mar up the end of the screw. Worked like a champ!

It is cool to see info from a few years back still helping out.

Where did you ever see a set screw holding a rotor?

I have never seen a rotor affixed to a hub with anything except the caliper and the lug nuts/wheel holding it all together.

Crap, I was caught by a Zombie. :(

Honda’s have two from the factory. They take a p3 JIS screwdriver.

Thanks for the info. I've never worked on a Honda (Thank God!)

    :)

Had to look it up. I don't see the point and who has JIS Screwdrivers for a brake job... Geez.

a Phillips will get you out in a pinch, but usually they are seized in there good so they will strip. I had to buy an impact JIS screwdriver, it made my life a bit easier.

    Same crap everyone else got
old thread I know but your post is new...to avoid having to get the JIS screwdriver, when those screws are seized, take your regular Phillips head screwdriver and insert it into the screw head, then take a hammer and give it a couple good whacks on the end and it will break the screw treads free and they will unscrew with the Phillips head with ease...
